SELF AWARENESS

I am creative, well-organized, open-minded and straight-forward person.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Essentially, I am confident and even-tempered, it is hard to set me off. Facing with difficulties, I have the ability to be relaxed and composed, to stay calm without getting carried away by emotions. If I have difficulties in coping with strong emotions, I ask specialist or colleagues for help or advice. Dealing with emotions of people around, I try to put myself in their place and come up with the solution. I am convinced that environment of positivity is the basis of productive work.

VALUES
I believe that flexibility to circumstances and open-mind and broader vision are the main in the modern ever-changing world. From my point of view being unprejudiced and willing to consider new ideas according to the circumstances is a key to success.

LEADERSHIP STYLE

My leadership style is based on consensus between parties of the process on policy content, concepts and an integrated perspective on the project. I try to form a comprehensive vision of the process, weighing all the risks and then ask each clue person of the process about details of their part of work and interpretation of the permanent and future solutions.

PERSONALITY AND SKILLS

According to the DISC test, I have a high dominancy level as I am demanding, controlling everyone, including their progress, well-organized person who is confident enough. I am not scared of trying new things, open to innovations and changes, whereas still keeping up with overwhelming emotions time to time, but working on it. I tend to influence people as I always see good sides of people, trying to motivate them for a better outcome. I do not like to be rushed as I am lacking time management skill compared to the preferrable level. I am also conscientious – I believe that moderate and high levels of such traits are essential for the hospitality industry.

I am good at problem-solving, multitasking; I am attentive to small details which at the same time complicates work, but the outcome is much better in the end.

This year I have not attended Career Day, because I am not planning to do the internship next semester. For this purpose, as discussed via email, I prepared top three companies where I would like to work at with explanation why.
1. Marriott - I have not had an international experience yet and it would nice to start career in the big hotel chain, where I can develop myself, including both professional and personal aspects.
2. Hilton - I admire their mission statement and values that comply with my expectations. Also it is a leading company in terms of innovations, in which I am into.
3. Hyatt - also one of the most well-known chains, in which I would like to try myself to gain required experience and knowledge for the future. Also as far as I heard they provide comfortable and convenient working environment with positive company policy.

1. What is the role of a mentor in your opinion

The role of mentor is guiding a person throughout a specific period of time, it is mostly long-term relationship between mentor and mentee to support the growth and development of the person. Mentor is a source of wisdom, knowledge and support, it is an effective tool that can boost confidence of the mentee in achieving the goals. However, I believe that not only a specialized expert can become a mentor, sometimes it can be a close person without being untitled.

2. What would your personal benefits be, from being a mentee?

If I would be a mentee, I would take maximum from the external help in the face of mentor in terms of sharing my professional and personal development plans in order to receive a constructive feedback and discuss the gaps. For me it is difficult to share personal goals and dreams with other people as I always believe that I can do everything by myself. However, I think that with a help of mentor I would be able to overcome some challenges and potential risks and failures.

3. “What’s your plan?” Make a timeline of your professional journey over the next 5‐10 years. What do you want to accomplish in 2, 5, 7, 10 years? How would a mentor assist you with your development?

I cannot say that my plan is solid as I am not sure yet what and where I see myself as I am still exploring the industry. But for now, my plan is broad, and for the next 5-10 years:

-       Have two internships accomplished by 2 years;

-       In 5 years, finish MBA and find a permanent job in the industry;

-       In 7 years, getting a managerial position and continue learning and obtaining new skills and expertise;

- In 10 years, I would like to transfer within a company to another country to expand experience.
Mentor would be my support as well as he would provide me with a constructive feedback on any action done towards big goals.

Causes of the conflict in the workplace

During my internship, I did not have conflicts myself, but I have witnessed some that occurred between the colleagues, the main causes of which were unrealistic needs and expectations of manager/supervisor that workers could not comply with and had to stay late and overwork without any compensation and recognition.

Positive and negative conflict

By promoting positive corporate culture and working environment, conflicts might arise less. Often people argue over idea for the work improvement, but if manager handles it well and trains his workers, then it looks like debate, whereas in the opposite situation it leads to escalating conflict due to different points of view. Conflict management should be a tool used in the workplace. When conflict occurs, it is essential to listen to both sides, write it down and find a common solution without assaulting any interest and side. The outcome of the conflict is generally positive for the organization as it allows to learn new and prevent similar situation, and the health of the business goes up as well.

Also I am motivated by sharing my experience and knowledge, if I can be useful somewhere, it makes more dedicated to the work or process.
Hospitality tools
During my previous internship, I noticed some motivation tools that were used such as: recognition (depending on the worker, it was done either personally or public during the briefing, promotions, bonuses and non-monetary rewards (best employee of the month, day off, making a worker to be a buddy, giving new responsibilities or more freedom if that what employee wanted) and providing constructive feedback for further improvement in a calm manner.

The definition has changed over the last years as well as people's behaviour and attitude towards it, now everything is easier to get. Also, communication channels expanded.
Unconscious bias
Unconscious bias is based on "gut feeling" as it is coming from the environment we grew up in, from the community that affected us and made us how we are now, how we learn, how we think and how we behave. I also have unconscious bias that are due to the stereotypes, however, international environment allows to overcome it.
