Should the number of working animals in the police be increased?

I have chosen this theme as the number of animals working with in the police forces have dropped by 230 nationwide over recent years (www.bbc.co.uk ). As well as this the number of crimes has increased by 29% over the last 12 months according to Home Office statistics (www.bbc.co.uk). This has lead to me wanting to know if the police should be doing more to increase the number of working animals in the service and if the reduction in their numbers in one reason for the increase in unsolved crimes. In 2018 the unsolved rate of burglaries was 90% nationally(www.bbc.co.uk) showing an increase over previous years. Another crime that has seen an increase over previous years is terrorist attacks. In 2017 there was 5 major attacks (www.express.co.uk) which is an increase over the years previous. If the number of dogs trained to detect explosive was increased the number of terrorist attacks may be controlled as explosives would be easier to detect in places where there is a large gathering of people such as concerts. This would mean that a repeat of the Manchester arena attack is less likely to happen.

There are a number of advantages and disadvantages to an online survey. One advantage is that you can collect both quantitative and qualitative data using an online survey. Also an online survey makes it easier to keep answers anonymous which helps with the ethics once the survey has been completed.
One disadvantage is that people may not give true answers to the questions as they are anonymous which means that people can put what ever they like and it will not be traced back to them.
I have chosen this method as it enables me to keep answers confidential as well as giving me both qualitative data and qualitative data. This means that I am able to see what the sample group's opinions are as well as being able to get statistics from the questionnaire.
My sample for my questionnaire will be my class of 20. This includes 8 females and 12 males. All of these are between the ages of 17 and 22. This group is also entirely made up of Public Service Students.
Once my survey has been completed I will need to consider Ethics, Validity and Reliability.
