How is the town/community of Starkfield represented? What is the significance of the imagery of winter?

The town is represented as 'bleak' and 'depressive'. The imagery used to represent Starkfield creates this desolate and empty town with little hope. The imagery represents the people, as a collective, as doomed and unable to achieve success in life, and escape their inevitable fate. This conforms to the conventions of realism- believable, realistic settings.
