I took this photo on a highway, and it represents the speed at which my mom was describing the work of the hospital staff. When she described to me how quickly and adamantly the staff worked to get her discharged, I was able to take in her emotions of feeling upset. If I were in her position, I wouldn't want someone to rush my recovery. Pain does not subside that fast, and I know my own limits more than anyone else. My mom was upset at how eager the staff wanted to get her home when she hasn't even gotten a chance to lay down and breathe. The recovery process is not easy, and I can't even imagine the pain she had to endure going through it herself. Even though I'm unable to feel her 100%, I understand that there was a lot of pain that accounted for her post-surgery state. That is why I chose this photo to represent that sense of solidarity.

This photo represents the closeness/attachment I felt when talking to my mom. So far, I have seen that the interviews have allowed me to grow closer and understand my mom on a greater level. I am able to activate my listening skills and and react in a way that'll offer her the most comfort in her moments of vulnerability. There's so much my mom unpacks as we talk and I couldn't be more grateful to learn new elements of her identity. The gum sticks to the wall and stays close to other pieces just like how I have become with my mom. The big amount of pieces represent the new pieces of information I learn from her as well as the new things I learn about my self as I have this conversation with her.
