This reading goes into detail about the Nazca lines, which are giant geoglyphs etched into the Peruvian desert by the ancient Nazca culture. We decided on putting this reading more towards art on our spectrum because humans don't yet know the purpose for these geoglyphs, or even how they were created in the first place. The Nazca lines make a comment on artistic expression, regarding how the author interprets them not just as technical marvels but as cultural artifacts reflecting the values of the Nazca people.

We felt that this reading was very balanced between art and science. The study of pigment is definitely in the intersection as all of these topics are, but we thought that based on how this chapter was written, it belonged in the middle. The author blends scientific writing on the creation of pigments with artistic examples of how the pigment has been used in real pieces, as well as how it may carry cultural significance like ultramarine and the Virgin Mary. This is our central point.

Because this study discusses is more scientific-leaning, we felt it was closest to science out of our five readings.
