These unique courses are for students in Year 12 / S5-S6 taking place at various Top Universities that run over 4 or 5 days where students get a taster of university life and an insight into a specific STEM subject. Students will get the opportunity to experience university style lectures and work on activities and group projects with the support of academics and student mentors. Students will stay in halls of residence and will take part in social activities in the evenings.

Join Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock for her first Royal Institution Christmas Lecture, being livestreamed from the University of Hertfordshire. We begin with how modern technology has revealed worlds beyond Earth and reshaped early ideas about life in our Solar System. We explore how observing Earth from orbit helps scientists understand what signs of life look like and how life might have begun here. This unique course is for students in Years 11-13 / S5-S6 and can be completed flexibly over the summer (approx. 30 hours of study).

The course will allow students to explore STEM studies at TOP UNIVERSITIES, including degree apprenticeships, and the career opportunities that that these subjects lead to. It will provide access to information on student life, STEM projects and activities set up leading UK universities and global STEM companies, first year undergraduate lectures, live interactive sessions with academic, admission tutors, employers, and current students.

Upon completion students will gain a Silver Industrial Cadets Award Inspired by its Patron, His Majesty, King Charles III, Industrial Cadets is a nationally recognised award which students can use as evidence of their experience and to support future applications and careers journeys.

Why does this session matter?
Recent research with over 600 parents and guardians showed that only 27% felt fully confident supporting their young person through the Army application process. This session is designed to help change that by bringing reliable information together in one place.

Topic: Law Taster Lecture: Do we have the right to be offensive?

Date: Wednesday 15th April      

Time: 16:30-17:15  

A fast-paced, thought-provoking session where students explore whether the law should protect offensive speech or stop it. Through real-life social media scenarios and philosophical debate, we’ll step into the shoes of judges, free speech defenders and moral guardians to decide: should feelings shape the law, or should the law protect the right to offend?

Topic: Sociology Masterclass - Faith, Science, and a Bad Question: Muslims and Evolution

Date: Wednesday 22^nd April  

Time: 16:30-17:15   

Public debate often assumes that Muslims are broadly hostile to evolutionary science. Drawing on sociological research with British Muslim communities, this masterclass examines how people in these contexts actually engage with evolution in everyday life, including acceptance, rejection, selective accommodation, and reinterpretation. Using interview material and concrete examples, the session moves beyond reductive “science versus religion” framings and demonstrates how views on evolution are shaped by education, religious authority, identity, and wider social context. This talk introduces sociology as a university discipline.

Topic: Commercial Law Taster – When does AI usage become illegal?
