Love You Forever was written by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw. The target audience for this picture storybook is children aged 3-6 years old.

This book is about a mother who holds her newborn son and sings to him while he is sleeping. She continues to do this throughout the different stages of his life - toddler, youth, teenager - and even while he is an adult living in his own home. When the mother becomes old and sick, her son holds her and sings the same song to her that she had sung to him his whole life. When his mother passes away, he picks up his newborn daughter while she is sleeping and starts singing the song to her.

The illustrations in this book have the style and texture of being drawn with coloured pencils. The illustrations are brightly coloured and very detailed which enhances the storyline and allows children to use their imagination.

Children who are six will love this book!

It has colourful drawings on every page that goes with the story. Try looking for the family cat (it's in almost every picture!).

Love You Forever is about a mother and son that love each other very much. The mother sings to her son every night while he is sleeping. When the mother becomes too old to sing the song, her son sings it to her instead. Try singing the lullaby while you read the story!

This is an important book because it shows that family is important and that the mother will always love her son no matter what.

Caregiver Recommendation

Love You Forever is recommended for caregivers because this book helps develop childrens' moral, social, and cognitive skills. This book helps children to develop morally because it discusses the subject of love. This story shows that parents have unconditional love for their children, no matter how their children behave as they grow up. This allows children to understand parental love and the importance of displaying affection. Understanding love helps children to develop healthy future relationships because they will know how to reciprocate love to others because their parents showed it to them first.

This story also assists children with developing socially because it demonstrates gender stereotypes within the mother-son relationship. The mother is seen to be caring and nurturing throughout the book while the son is shown not to be very affectionate throughout his life. At the end of the book, these gender roles are reversed when the son is seen caring for his baby daughter. This helps children to develop socially because children are taught that both men and women can display love and affection.

Additionally, this book assists children with developing cognitively because it discusses the deeper concepts of life and death. This story is not just about the son growing up, it’s also about his mother's aging. This helps children understand that death is a part of life and that it does not need to be feared. This allows children to ask questions about life, death, love, gender stereotypes, and what it really means to die.
