Jacob had to give up everything, he even got separated by his friends because of the living zones. On  chapter 2 pg 23, Jacob says " The streets in Coronationville--- -where we had to go -----were boring. It was a township only for Coloreds." His whole family had to leave things. For example, Uncle Richard. was a teacher, and due to. SEGREGATION he had to leave his job and move to the country-side. The author uses a very exemplary technique of writing. For example, on pg 11 chapter 1 "her mouth was dry, her body was wet and sticky, her legs sprinting heavily." The author uses nouns before adjetives to describe the detail. When the author uses the metaphor "The Noose" to show how apartheid was grabbing them by the necks. It shows how apartheid is destroying their lives even though they were there first. Why did the white community hate blacks but liked their labor. On pg 21, "So when Mommy began making a cowboy suit just like the Lone Ranger's for the son of one of her white customers, I was jealous." That shows that whites liked their labor and this still occurs today. Have you noticed that a lot of care givers are women and their skin color is black? Thats because they think that having a white persons job is not okay. But the thing is, we can't base who should work were based on their skin color. And the black community was most affected by corruption of education. But we still need to help, Jacob did not loose hope. And we know that the mom does not like this for lot's of reasons, and the dad try's to think positive. But before they have to move a "twist". His father needs to do this card within 24 hours. But mostly the story is about the injustice of white, black, coloured, Indians, and etc.

Carolina- The story The Noose has to do with themes of despair because the boy's dad suddenly needs to come to the Pass Office for classification as a coloured in 24 hours, or else he could not come with the family. It ends up he is nominated as an African just on the boy's birthday. How bad can that day get?

Mel- I think this chapter is about how Jacob's family was handling the apartheid and how much they had to change so much because of apartheid. Then they had to seperate just because they thought he was blacker. And his life is now very hard just because the government decided to separate black from white. Also after the dad came back he couldn't even talk. These clasifiations were to diminush other races, making people feel humilieted or hurt. Jacob is devistated and confused why they need to move, he thinks it's not fair! And I agree, people shouldn't be clasified and controlled because of something they can't control about them. I also find it dispointing that Uncle Richard lost his job, because he had "black friends"? Why would that make any diffrence! They are all HUMAN! I understand that it was a diffrent time period, but the biggest thing that seperate humans from animals, is our empathy. In the story the main character is 10 and at the star he is just a normal innocent child but at the end he feels ore grown-up, he doesn't feel joy when he gets a much desired present.
