Improve Housing for Farm Workers in Immokalee

Improving the housing conditions for the Farm Workers of Immokalee is our community-based project. We plan on developing a whole new community. A community with improved quality housing that Farm Workers are not accustomed to. The design for our community will be in the form of duplexes. Some will be large enough to house a five-member household and others will be made for smaller family sizes.

How we plan on raising the money for such a job is through: Fundraising, Auctions, Yard Sales, and opening Go Fund Me accounts. The fundraisers will involve numerous bake sales and carwashes. Yard sales can be furniture donated by individuals who understand and follow our cause. All the money that is raised then goes into buying land to build our houses and then hire contractors, architects, plumbers, and electricians. They will all participate in making the community. Volunteers will also help us build and design the duplexes.

Our community will be a haven to the Farm Workers that do not have the opportunity to afford a house that is in the best quality for their children and even themselves. In Immokalee based on personal experience housing is not cheap. According to the National Farm Workers Ministry to live in a trailer in Immokalee the rent can reach up to $500. Many Farm Workers can not afford the rent, food and transportation from place to place, so many force themselves into one trailer in order the make ends meet. Our Ultimate goal is to change that once and for all because Farm workers need to be seen as humans and not objects. A quote from Mary Cano “Por lo menos una vez en la vida vas a necesitar un médico, un abogado, un arquitecto, pero todos los días tres veces al día vas a necesitar un agricultor.” At least once in your life you will need a doctor, a lawyer, an architect, but every day three times a day you're going to need a farmer.” This quote shows that Farm Workers feed the world. Our mission is to help these people live in a place that they can call home.

Not many people know about us but were here. For the ones who do know, know us as fieldworkers economy. The ones who live here that are teenagers or adults struggle to look for work. Immokalee has stores here and there community services and all but when someone gets laid off its hard for them to be employed in a quick manner. Most adults have family and bills to take care of, so when things don't quite work out where can they go? Most teenagers have to sometimes quit school to help their parents or guardians out. But most places don't hire between a certain age. So how are they going to help? Immokalee needs to open more jobs to the people unemployed and in need of work. - We are going to help the community by doing outreaches and giving out food. For example water, food and clothes. We will go to sponsors and ask for them to sponsor to us. Then we will ask for donations and volunteers so we can get the help we need. We will post on social media so maybe the word will spread out. People use transportation to get from point ‘A to point B’. It’s just take a few hours or minutes depending on where you going. In Immokalee making your way into and out this town many people travel on a specific road to get where they want to go. When traveling on this road people don’t follow the speed limit because they want to get to their destination quickly, but don’t seem to notice they are hurting themselves and others. Many car crashes lately has happen due to someone not driving safely or not following road rules. I and my partners want to stop this problem. Our project is to make road 82 road safe, so people can get where they need with no problem. Our way of doing this is to grab anyone in Immokalee who wants to volunteers to convince the government to fix the road.
