The crowd. 

Cheering, Screaming, Booing, 

The pitcher.

Focusing, Preparing, Throwing 

Kirk Gibson.

Gripping, timing, swinging 

Everyone. 

Watching, Hoping, celebrating

With a hard injury,

The pressure hits you

And the ball does miss you,

You can't lose your hope

You have to persevere,

Everyone watches as the ball is pitched,

This is the moment

The crowd roars with joy

The ball was hit, yards away

 it was one lucky day

He hit the ball

With injured legs 

And a hand for all

He made a run

And went to home 

He did, the impossible

Whatta guy

He's hurt, he's injured 

But he still makes the cut

He swings that bat

He hits that ball

The home run of his life,

 the hit of the game

With his knee swollen

And his legs almost broken 

He hits the home run 

Makes the improbable, 

the impossible, possible 

All odds against him

That did not stop him 

Who is this man ?

The name is Kirk Gibson 

It was the bottom of the 9th

Number 23 was up to bat

First hit was a foul

Second hit was a foul

On the third hit he tries his best

And with a home run, he brings the trophy to the west.

But that's not enough to stop Kirk 

The position he's in gives great pressure 

With his chances of success getting lesser and lesser

As two strikes climb upon him 

Nothing compares to his shaking limbs 

As he swings the ball soars high 

Straight toward the night sky

The ball goes over the wall 

When it's his turn to run the bases he doesn't stall

Limps around the bases. 

Celebrates with his team.

Deafened by the sound of the crowd cheering, 

With each step comes pain, 

Up to bat, 

Hearts beating so loud you can hear them, 

Pressure begins eating away at the team, 

Everyone is counting on Kirk, 

He's ready, 

The ball is thrown, 

It's a hit, 

Foul, 

Pain becoming worse, 

Trying again, 

Everyone is counting on him,

A struggle to get to home base. 

He puts his shoulder up slowly and raises the bat 

Kirk waits for the ball

He grins in anticipation

As the ball is speeding at him like a raging bull 

He swings...

Kirk reloads like a pistol 

Ready for the next pitch 

The ball is pitched 

He swings and it's a foul. 

Kirk repositions himself for the next and maybe final pitch 

He sweats, his pain grows larger, and he focuses clearly just on the ball

The ball is pitched 

He swings 

The crowd follows the ball like a bird in the sky 

It's a home run ! 

The crowd goes wild. 

In that moment he is number one. 

Doing the impossible, you will soon see,

Kirk Gibson, up to plate,

Only hoping his hit won't be late.

Two outs, one more chance,

Looking at the ball, took a glance.

Hits the ball, gets a home run,

For the team he has done a ton.

The ball has such a large height

It managed to hit the light.

You hear the fans begin to cheer

Some may even start to tear.

Hopefully he will soon heal

As Kirk Gibson has just done the unreal.

Nothing is predictable.

The crowd swarms,

Murmurs fill the air.

Injured in both legs,

Reaches the plate,

Bat in hand.

He reaches first base,

Ball in air.

The yellow pole signifies,

Fast as light,

Crosses the line,

Hearts racing,

Tension in the crowd,

Turns to roars,

And astonishment.

The impossible has been achieved.

A home run for Kirk Gibson.

It's 1988,

Kirk is up to the plate,

9th inning,

Thinking there's no chance of winning.

Just hit another foul,

But not turning in the towel,

Getting ready,

Pressures heavy.

Everyone is wowed,

As the ball goes to the crowd

The game is done, 

We have won.

He stepped up to the plate, 

The pitcher did not wait,

Flying fast,

The ball was foul

Yet from the stands came more howls

Strike one, 

The pressure weighs a ton,

Strike two, 

He must give his all or none

Three balls, two strikes,

Too hurt to play,

Yet he gets the one he likes,

Improbable,

Impossible,

A roll of the dice,

His hit was more than nice,

Bam!

The stadium is alight,

With the sparks of the night,

The game winning hit, 

And the crowd doesn't miss a bit

But he went up to bat

As they watched they endured

It was nothing but that

He swung at two pitches

The thought we could not dismiss 

The crowd needed some stitches

For they both wee a miss

What they saw they refused

The others team's hearts darkened

They were all confused

For the impossible had happened

The pitcher gives a walk

The one and only comes up 

The crowd is going wild 

First pitch, foul 

Again, foul

With 2 strikes

Theres that one pitch 

Prefect for Kirk 

His body moves in one motion 

The ball and the bat meeting at home plate 

The ball is  going high and higher 

Then it falls 

It's a walk off home run

And the crowd goes crazy

And the dodgers goes home with a win

Kirk Gibson hit an impossible home run.

On the 19th of October

In the year 1988,

The term comeback,

Was forever changed.

A man named Kirk played for a team,

A team that wanted to be very supreme.

In baseball, the team reached the grand finale,

A wall was hit, a team considered greater,

Faced up against the team that Kirk loved greatly.

Intense game after intense game went on,

On game four though, everything changed,

The team considered greater was on the verge of winning,

Hoping to tie the series up at two to two.

The team Kirk loved was down 4-3 

At the bottom of the ninth inning.

Injured, tired, Kirk went up to the plate,

Knowing he could still beat the team considered greater,

As the first ball thrown, he fouled, slightly missing the heavens, he greatly strived for

As the second ball was thrown, it was hit far out of bounds,

With no chance of ever being found

The third pitch was thrown,

The ball went up, 

as if it were graced the heavens,

And went down into the crowd,

Looking up from his view of the floor,

He looked at the ball,

Fall right into the crowd standing behind the diamond

And forever changed the comeback,

Kirk had come over a mighty deficit,

And help guided his team,

To be considered supreme. 

  

Three outs

The dodger fans always shout

Up walks number 23 

Who happens to have a swollen knee

Kirk Gibson's in so much pain

Yet he know he has to play the game

He gets ready to swing

Even though he has a bad hamstring

The ball is pitched 

His muscles twitch 

And he makes it to home plate 

While injured, nobody thought he could make a play this great.

Always did the impossible,

Bottom of the last inning,

Two outs,

Injured,

Hurting ,

In pain,

Goes up to bat,

Happy,

Excited,

Thrilled,

Home run

There was no hope left for the great 23. 

Up to the base, hearing the crowd chatter;

not even introduced as the very last batter. 

Hands gripped tightly on the bat, looks up at the night sky;

sweat dripping down his forehead,

oh what a night. 

Sees the ball coming towards him, 

at lightning speed. 

Feels adrenaline rushing,

as he does a great deed. 

Hears the crescendo of screams,

as the ball flies high.

A big roar breaks out, and chaos awakens;

the crowd is astounded by this great of a hit.

Kirk Gibson the Great, breaks off into a run.

Runs with all his might,

to the base he calls home;

in such dark of a night.
