Although the most famous and deadly eruption was in AD 79 there have been other eruptions. The most recent one was in 1944. This volcano has erupted about three dozen times since the AD 79 eruption but it hasn't erupted since 1944. This eruption endangered the lives three million people but the amount of deaths is unknown. Although it has been a while since it's last eruption it still remains an active volcano and can erupt at any time.
