Not a day that passes without creating a new wonderful memory in KCD. However, I have to say my favorite memory might not be that common. It is the graduation ceremony of my first daughter from KCD in 2020. Yes! Covid year. But KCD made it work. It was an amazing outdoor ceremony. The kids were all masked but you can feel the positive energy fill the air! Thank you KCD…. For everything!

Even though I hated math, I have wonderful memories of Mr. Gander. I was in his advisee group as well as his PreCal classes. He made it a point to hunt me down during free periods to come and practice math problems. Even though I hated it at the time, looking back I appreciate how much he cared. He (and other great educators like him) made KCD memorable for me.

In third grade, Ms. Brown brought the lower school principle at the time, Mrs. Kennedy, in the room and had the entire class gather on the rug to explain that the toilet paper roll in Mrs. Kennedy’s hand was the last roll we had in the entire school and we would be rationing a few pieces for each of us to last the rest of the day. Ms. Brown then had us pass around the roll and told us to take what we needed. There was a distinct response in the classroom of fear of upset stomachs but also making sure our classmates were taken care of before ourselves was an amazing life lesson.

Ms. Brown was gifted toilet paper at the end of the year as a result.

I wonder how many students experienced the pleasure (and pain) of playing "Cero O Cinco" with Dr Hughes in 1st Year Spanish? A simple game that had the class on the edge of their seats for outcome of each contestant... In all seriousness though, Dr Hughes was one of the best teachers I ever had at any level-- nightly study and the utmost attention to detail was demanded to succeed in his Spanish and History classes. I felt I had an advantage over all of my classmates in college and med school after having him for multiple classes at KCD.

The seventh grade teachers were really the best, you learned a lot and made a lot of memories too! Every part of Mr. Wilhelmi's class was memorable -- whether it was traipsing around campus for leaves to press in phone books, growing turnips down behind the playground, dissecting frogs, or learning all about birds (including his collection in storage :) ). Mr. Pollitt -- even though he intimidated some of us -- really helped to foster a love of reading too.

“Mini-mester” on Rock Creek campus right after KHS and LCD merged. There was a week of classes where we could learn everything from how to change the oil in your car to film making to learning to cook. Basically a week to goof off!
