Artist: Hendrik Cornelisz.
Theme: Battle
I added this piece because I thought it was very impressive. It's a small part of a huge carpet covering the wall, it's also very detailed so it must have taken a lot of time and dedication.
I believe this piece is more traditional than the other battle themed piece however, it has some innovative motives as well. These huge carpets had been made before, depicting important figures or events. The border you can see is a classical element seen on almost all of these types of carpets.

Artist: - Bon D'armagnac
Theme:Battle

I added this because it cuaght my eye from far away. It was intersting trying to figure out what was depicted, it appears to be a battle plan.
I think this is an innovative piece because it's a simple battle structure with words and writing all over it. The base function seems to be to have a clear attack/defense plan. It's innovative because of this, focusing more on the functionality of a piece alongside aesthetics.

Artist: -
Theme: Self Image

I chose to add this piece because of the sort of gruesome depictions of people being hanged.
The part of the painting I photographed shows 2 types of punishment by death. One seems more civil and reserved for the noble, the hanging in the tree. And the other is more painful and gory, the burning on a stake.
I think it's innovative to show the clear difference in treatment of the poor and rich even in death. While traditionaly you wouldn't see these types of depictions since the rich who order the paintings would like to be shown in a good light.

Artist: Jan Toorop
Theme: Self Image

The vibrant colours immediatly appealed to me, that's why I took a picture of it.
This is a more traditional view of self image in my opinion because it depicts the common Dutch family around a table. It portrays typically Zeeuws aspects like their clothing.

Artist: -
Theme: Land
I included this piece because it's a qunique technique of cutting out paper with many small details and sticking it on a background.
I believe this is an innovative piece because of how they depict depth while ignoring rules like size difference and in general the lines seem very stiff. I like how the leaves of the trees are done, using the black background instead of painting over it. It's a new approach and that makes it more innovative.

Artist: -
Theme: Land

I included this piece because in contract to the others it was done in black&white. It reminded me of something out of a comic book.
I think this piece has the same amount of traditional and innovative aspects but it's more traditional due to the people and architecture portrayed.
