In relation to the native word "irong," which means "nose," the name "Iloilo City" was developed from "irong-irong." The main population area during the pre-Spanish era was shaped like a nose by the Iloilo River, hence the name, which was derived from that. The name is also supposed to have originated from a fish native to the area with the same name that was a mainstay of the daily diets of the area's first settlers. The phrase "Most Loyal and Noble City" or "La Muy Leal Y Noble Ciuded de Iloilo" was also used to describe Iloilo City.

Batchoy or La Paz Batchoy is a popular noodle dish in the Philippines that originated in La Paz, Iloilo, its main ingredients are pork offal like spleen, kidneys and liver. Served on a deep bowl with a very hot soup it is garnished with garlic, pork cracklings, spring onions and raw egg. The origins of the dish is still inconclusive but there were two stories that are quite popular. First story states that it was created by Federico Guillergan, Sr. in 1938 when he sold this dish in La Paz market, the recipe calls for broth, noodles, beef and pork which later evolved to its modern form.

Female Aedes are synthetically engineered to have the antibody, which is activated by feeding on blood. The antibody prevents the dengue virus replicating throughout her body, ensuring she can’t pass it on. A gene dissemination system could spread the antibody to wild mosquito populations.
SDG GOAL 2: Solution: Precision Agriculture

Making technological advancements in our agricultural sector can be a solution to addressing the sustainable production of food and achieving food security and quality. Precision agriculture aims to increase crop yields and profitability while reducing the amount of traditional inputs required to grow crops such as land, water, fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides. In other words, farmers who use precision agriculture use less to produce more. This technology provides local farmers with soil, land, and weather information. It entails providing farmers with agronomic information via their mobile phones in order to increase crop yield. Farmers can also call agricultural hotlines if they have any questions about their crops. Precision agriculture has been already introduced and is being used in countries like Ethiopia, India, and Pakistan.

The local and national government should also focus and provide our local farmers with more support and recognition instead of importing goods from other countries.
