What do steroids actually do?

When we lift weights heavier than what we're used to, we create tiny micro-tears in muscle fibers. The body's natural repair process repairs the tear and then overcompensates by adding bigger cells to build a stronger fiber. Natural testosterone is the body's main ingredient for this process. Injecting steroids into the bloodstream connects with the muscle's cell receiving dock and promotes cell growth. Basically helping athletes muscles recover faster. This is important for a couple key aspects in sports. Athletes muscles can recover faster, allowing the athlete to life more weight in a shorter period of time. It also always athletes to recover faster from soreness, which obviously gives them an unfair advantage.

+ Article is not biased, simply stating facts.

- The article does not address the negative effects of steroids

Why it is time to legalize steroids?

Athletes today are going to use steroids whether they are legal in the sport or not. Steroids have become the biggest scourge of many sports which is why the author feels as though it is time to legalize them. The main reason the sports leagues are wanting to prohibit steroids is because they give and unfair advantage over the athletes following the rules. If steroids are allowed then you would again have a level playing field and more fans would come to games to see athletes at the peak of their ability. With steroids baseball players would be able to pitch harder, hit farther. Steroids may seem like cheating to some but they could provide a more interesting game and a more level playing field

+ Many examples of logos, and evidence to support claims.

- One sided, does not show the other side of the topic

Why steroids should not be legal for professional sports.

In professional sports, there is a very competitive field to be the best. Millions of athletes grind out countless hours in the gym in hopes of being the best.

Steroid use can help athletes become much stronger and much faster than athletes who don't use steroids. If steroids were to be legalize in sports, all athletes would

be forced to use steroids, but why is this a bad thing? It's a bad thing because steroid use has many negative, permanent effects on the human body. These negative effects

would follow the athlete well after his athlete years, and effect him for the rest of his life. Its just not worth it.

+Specific examples and the writers own opinion.

-Didn't give any argument from the other side of the argument.

http://www.npr.org/2008/01/23/18299098/should-we-accept-steroid-use-in-sports
