Reckless By: Cecily Von Ziegesar

The book, Reckless by Cecily Von Ziegesar, is based on the life of upper east side teenagers who are trying to find their way through school, drama, love, and their social life. The main protagonist in this book, Jenny Humphrey, has arrived at Waverly Academy, where everyone is in cliques and she is the new girl. She has to find her way through drama including "accidentally" stealing the "it girl"'s boyfriend, joining her own clique, and learning to take risks. The genre this book is in is drama. This book is a great read if you like drama-filled books based on the not-so-average life of spoiled teenagers.
In my opinion, I believe this is a great book, and a great series to continue to read. If I were to rank this book, I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. The reason I give this book a 4 out of a 5 is because for some readers, the story plot may be hard to follow. This book has unexpected twists and turns. I highly recommend this book to readers; this book is very interesting.

The characters in the book are described as less stereotypical and more fleshed out. The story plot is more entertaining and includes more drama and issues. The author used a cliff hanger at the end of the book, leaving readers on edge, wanting to know more. The reader shows to really enjoy this book and this series as a whole.
I agree with this book review; I enjoyed the same things as this reader. By reading this review I realized how much the author went into detail about each character's personality. I agree with the reader about the book leaving the readers on edge. The book leaves you wanting to read more of the series to find out what happens. This book is described as a drama filled novel and I agree.

In this novel, the universal theme is the average teenage life. The theme is making mistakes and heart break. This novel revolves around young adults trying to figure out themselves out through all the drama, hurt, and confusion. Readers from all ages can relate to this theme because being confused is a feeling we can all relate to. Characters in this novel get into problems with their loved ones and get into dilemmas, "What was wrong with him? Had he really made a mistake by breaking up with her, or wa he just seeing Callie through rose-colored glasses now? Was he destined to be one of those assholes who only wanted the girls he couldn't have?" (Ziegesar 197)

Throughout this novel, each character goes through this universal theme. Characters in the story plot go through heart break, mistakes, confusion, and risks. The main characters go through more emotions than other characters in the novel; their situations going being described in depth. This theme is relevant in our world today.
Element #4: Character Analysis

In this novel, the primary character is Jenny Humphrey. Jenny Humphrey is the new student at Waverly academy. Jenny is charming, sweet, unjudgemental, and innocent. Everyone is intrigued when Jenny, the new student, shows up to Waverly. With her charm and innocence, she catches the eye of Easy Walsh, one of the hottest guys on campus.

Jenny's motivation in the novel is to fit in. Not only to fit in, Jenny wants to be liked. Most of the students on campus like Jenny, except Callie Vernon. Callie was Easy's girlfriend, until Jenny came into the picture. Jenny wants to get Callie to like her, especially since they are roommates and Callie never stops ignoring her and throwing her dirty looks.

Jenny Humphrey has an overall huge impact on everyone's life at waverly. She helps the cliques at the school communicate. Jenny helps the girls at the boarding school find a way to be friends through all the drama, "What if we all have to wear someone else's clothes to the party tonight-- someone that we don't really know? I mean it will give us a chance to get to know eachother." (Ziegesar 108.) I can relate to Jenny beacuse I know what it feels like to start out new at a new school and want to fit in. In the end, Jenny ends up accepting the situation she's in and I think I can relate to that too.
