The first law states that any object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an outside force, and that an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force. Our mousetrap car relates to this law because unless it is acted on by our outside force, it will stay at rest. and once we act on our car with a force, it will not stop unless it's acted on by a different force.

The second law states that an object produced by a net force is directly proportional to the net force, but inversely proportional to its mass. With that, acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The second law will be in effect with the mousetrap car because the more the car weighs, the slower the car will go. (The greater the mass, the greater the amount of force needed).

The third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. When the car is pushed from the force we've given it, the car also will push on that force. In this case, when the mousetrap snaps down for the car to move, the car also pushes onto the snap.

The energy used for a mousetrap car is strictly mechanical energy. Within mechanical energy, however., are kinetic and potential. Potential energy is energy that is stored and ready to be used, where as kinetic energy is energy based on motion. So for this car, the main source of energy would be kinetic. It isn't at any height with stored energy to be potential, but it is energy that is based on the movement of the car, so it would be considered kinetic.

Momentum is mass in motion. The faster an object is moving the more momentum it has in it's direction of motion and the harder it will be to change it's motion. Impulse however is force through time, and these two act together when it comes to our mousetrap car. When forces are applied through time to objects, the object changes it's momentum. Our car is the object, and impulse and momentum effect it from it's mass and time.
