The Bahamas are heavily influenced by the clothing trends of America and by their climate when it comes to personal appearance. The people of the Bahamas often wear beach clothing such as flip-flops, shorts, and t-shirts. As well, they value and normally wear bright and varying colors with their outfits. They wear formal attire when going to church and in meetings and work, similar to what is worn in America. For casual clothing, they often wear what would be considered preppy attire in America: polo shirts, cargo shorts, and tennis shoes.

Washington Post Article on Bahamian Culture

This article focused on the food and influence of the history of the island on the present culture of the country. It is about the travels of a tourist to the Bahamas and their experience with food on the island. First, the writer discusses her interest in trying real native and authentic Bahamian food instead of the usual tourist food that is found on Bay Street. Instead, her family and herself eat conch, an extremely popular and national dish of the Bahamas. Then, the author talks about some history of the island that is given by her tour guide. She discusses how the food is heavily influenced by the history of the vast majority of Bahamians, as many are descendants of former slaves who brought West African culture and American South food influences to the Bahamas, seen in dishes such as peas 'n rice. This is due to the fact the Bahamas was a part of the Triangular Trade that involved the trading of slaves and served as an escape for American slaves from the United States to the free island through Florida.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/travel/nassau-food-tour-showcases-bahamian-fare-beyond-the-resort/2015/08/27/6bae8212-1b4f-11e5-bd7f-4611a60dd8e5_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.13ab8fb15356
