I've read Beloved a few times and it always reminds me of the way trauma/anxieties can be represented in ghost stories. Zacharias points to the ghosts being crucial for the governess to feel wholeness (fulfill her duty) in the big Other/symbolic.

The Platform was an insane movie, people were imprisoned for any sort of crime and placed in a tower structure where food descended from the top and the people at the bottom got what was left. The hierarchy mimics tower/staircase scenes of hierarchy that Robbins discusses, and the place on the hierarchy can be life/death.

Haec Vir: or The Womanish Man is a 17th century pamphlet on a conversation between a women dressed like a man and a man dressed like a woman. They argue their reasons for dressing like the other and the "man-woman" defends women's rights but eventually succumbs the times patriarchal ideas. I kept thinking about Walton discussing the governess's inability to assume a male position due to the boundaries of the era.
