Experiential learning – 

-       Method of educating through first-hand experience 

-       First explored by John Dewey and Jean Piaget, among others 

-       May include internships, studies abroad, field trips, field research, and service-learning projects 

-       Experiential-Learning Assignments should be meaningful and have some significance to the students 

-       Students should discuss and reflect on their learning experience 

-       Based on four main elements which operate in a continuous cycle during the learning experience – Concrete experience, Reflective observation, Abstract conceptualization, Active experimentation 

- It is a science and art of teaching in a creative way 

- It includes an educational influence on the learner

- The goal of this pedagogy is to transform any subject class into a creative teaching process

- This creates creative learners

- The most effective learning is stimulated from active process of engagement 

Studies show that overtime people with average IQ but high emotional intelligence are significantly more successful than those with a higher IQ. 

The holistic approach to teaching and learning which recognises the connectedness of mind, body and spirit.

 They see the learning as an integrated and interconnected approach instead of focusing on a component of learning and assessment. 

 

Goal based learning is based on the concept of learning a set of skills during the process of completing a specific goal

 

The learner will learn a set of pre conceived skills during the process of attempting to reach a goal that is of interest to the learner

 

Can also be called OBE (Outcome Based Education)

 

Some argue that schools are all goal based as they are all aiming to achieve an end goal to the students learning

This learning is something that can be described but not always measured 

Holistic education nurtures the development of the whole person, not just a single aspect.

Has a focus on values.

Strong emphasis on connections and interconnectedness. 

Teachers strive to help students grow toward their full potential in all dimensions: intellectual, emotional, social, artistic, moral, psychological, physical, aesthetic, creative, intuitive, spiritual, and others. 

 

-Using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting and effective.

-Possibility thinking- The means by which questions are posed or puzzles surfaced- Through multiple ways of generating the question ‘what if?’ (Craft 2000; 2001; 2001) 

-Dialogic Teaching and Learning

-Involves creative practice; self-motivation, confidence, curiosity, flexibility, originality, risk-taking, and non-conformity.

-Conceptions of creativity sit within four dimensions: The creative person, product, process or environment.

-       Effective learning is inspired from the active process of engagement with the content and, sociably, others. 

-       Brings to light a sense of self – self-confidence, self-awareness and originality.

1)      Experimental Learning

-          Is learnt through experience 

-          Jean Piaget and John Dewey are the theorists 

-          Learner is an active participant within their own learning 

-          4 main topics which are 

-          Concrete experience- involves when a new experience is experienced or a previous experience that has been rebuilt. 

-          Reflective observation- involve inconsistencies between knowledge and experience

-           Abstract conceptualization- where new ideas are made and realizing exciting concepts

-          Active participation- student/learner applies knowledge to the outside world 

2)      Creative Pedagogies 

-          In the form of formula of intervention- a strict word pattern used to describe invention. 

-          Involves educational influence on the learner for acquisition of certain study material 

-          Teaching students how to learn own creators of the future

 

3)      Holistic Learning 

-          Connection between mind, body and spirit

-          Taking into consideration of an individual’s social, emotional, intellectual, cultural and spiritual wellbeing. 

 

-          Exploration for students 

-          Play based learning 

-          Understanding children as competent, curious and active learners 

-          Students understand art in a sense of where its accessible, where it’s from and how to dispose
