The Myanmar Rohingya is a very serious issue. This genocide started as a result of a conflict between Rohingya people and the Myanmar military. Myanmar is located in India right in between Bangladesh and Thailand, and the Rohingya people live in the Rakhine State. This has been going on for a long time, but it's gotten worse in this past century. More that 640,000 Rohingya people have had to fled their homes, and over 6,700 have died. Hundreds of villages have been burned down causing thousands of people to be homeless. Myanmar doesn't even acknowledge the Rohingya people as real citizens, which instead they are calling illegal immigrants. On the other hand there are a lot of charities helping the Rohingya people so they are getting the help they need. Also this crisis is not getting any worse which means things can only get better. In conclusion A lot is going on in Myanmar and we have to start helping them more.

How has the problem affected the community directly?

This Genocide has affected the Rohingya people greatly. It makes many adults feel worthless and makes them have no reasons to live. Furthermore families are starving or not even together at all. Thousands of people die from this and it is all very unethical. It is also bad for the environment, A lot of smoke is released into the air from all the villages getting burned down, which is what causes global warming. Imagine you were just living a normal life when all of a sudden your whole village gets burned down and all of your friends and Family burn with it.That is exactly what the Rohingya people are going through and as you can tell it is very sad. Finally most of the people are forced to travel all the way to Bangladesh from where they live and a lot of people cant make it through that harsh trip, and if we help them a lot of less people would die. In conclusion this affects the community in many ways and we have to stop this.

Why should the world be concerned about this issue?

There are many reasons why the world should be concerned about this issue. First of all a lot of people are dying from this, and if you don't care about that then there is probably something wrong with you. Also how would you feel if your village was burned down and most of your stuff disappeared? Second of all more than 200,000 Rohingya people are fleeing to Bangladesh and other nearby countries. This can cause immigrant overflows which can affect the countries where they escaping to. Furthermore a lot of kids in the Rakhine State are not getting an education which causes them to not be able to be successful later in their life. Lastly the Rohingya people don't have much food so a lot of people are starving to death. In conclusion there are a lot of reasons why people should be concerned about this, and we should start helping them out more.

For what it is not a lot is being done about it. There are a couple charities helping the people in Myanmar, but thats about it. Some of the charities helping out there are BRAC, IOM Action Against Hunger, Unicef, Save the Children and many more. Those are only some of the main charities, and they are doing a lot to help. Most of them are located at the borders of Bangladesh and are trying to get inside of Myanmar. BRAC and Actions against hunger both have over a thousand staff members helping mostly women and kids. Action for hunger is probably the biggest provider for food, they give about a thousand meals a day to the Rohingya people. The IOM is providing healthcare and sanitations which is very helpful to everyone since they have been traveling for at least a couple weeks. Unicef is giving homes and shelter to the Rohingya people and they are planning to vaccinate 150,00 kids for various diseases including measles, rubella, polio. The Save the Children charity has been helping the Rohingya people since 1970, and they have been helping them a lot ever since then. Another charity that has been helping for a long time is UHNCR, This charity has only about 150 people helping in Bangladesh but it has 30 people in Myanmar which is very helpful.

Dear Diary,
It has been about a decade since is all started and I am now 17 years old. I was only 6 when my village was burned so I don't remember it very well. What I do remember is that I had just woke up from a nap when my house started to burn, my parents were panicking and trying to save as much stuff as possible. When I looked outside all I could see was fire and a bunch of troops attacking my neighbors. after a couple minutes my dad picked me up and he carried me to the back door so that we could run away. We stated running and only stopped after about 20 minutes. We waited for about 3 hours and when I asked my parents they told me because we had to wait for the troops to leave. After we got back to the village we were able to see all the destruction. there were dozens of kids left alone without their parents. My parents tryed to go around helping as many people as possible, but I could do nothing but stare at all the destruction. All of the houses were burned down to the ground. We stayed at the village for a couple more days until about 20 people came. They said that they were part of the UHNCR and that they were there to help us. they gave us all food and water and then put us in cars to drive to a place with a bunch of tents. We lived there for a month or two until they made us go on boats to bring us to Bangladesh. Once we arrived at Bangladesh we got to live in this sort of village that was made up of thousands of giant tents. Now a couple of years after that I have finally moved to Dhaka and I am now a happy construction worker.
-Jafar
