The volcano was spitting out lots of ash and steam as well and created small tremors.

 When really hot rocks melt in the middle of the earth, their mass stays the same but their volume increases. Causing the magma to rise through the vents and out the top onto earth’s crust.

The whirlwinds picked up trees from their roots along with men, cattle and horses.

Even 100's of miles away the blast was but was to be confused with cannon shots, but this was just a warning  On April 10 the 1816 Mt Tambora went off again but this time more intense and violent 'Almost immediately the entire mountain appeared to be consumed by liquid fire, a fountain of ash, water, and molten rock shooting in every direction,” Was what some lucky survivors had to say about the eruption. Mt Tambora released rocks flown over 20 miles away. #2 The eruption of Mt Tambora killed over 90,000 people making it the most deaths caused by a volcano in history as well as being the biggest. Most people died from starvation after the volcano due to the ash and magma destroying their crops and rendering their land unusable. 

#3 Mt Tambora was the largest volcano in recorded history coming in at a destructive VEI-7 (Volcanic Explosivity Index). The eruption cloud was more than 40 km high and it released over 100 cubic kilometres of tephra.

#4 Mt Tambora was named the Pompeii of the east.
