Walk Two Moons is the anchor text of this curricular set. This is an incredibly touching story about one girl's adventure to discover the truth about her mom. For much of the story Sal, our main character, knows her mom has left to visit an old friend in Idaho, but thinks she will eventually return. Meanwhile, her and her dad move to Ohio. There she makes friends with Phoebe and Ben, who have their own mysteries surrounding their mothers. This story is told by Sal in vignettes while she retraces her mother's steps from Kentucky to Idaho during a road trip with her gran and gramps.
Creech, Sharon. It is about being caught between childhood and adulthood.
The story in "Oranges" also mirrors the relationship between Sal and Ben.
The text complexity of this poem is high with figurative language and nostalgia throughout the poem.
