First visit and observation in the clinic and the health and safety regulations were all up to date. I had to wear gloves, a new face mask entering the building, an apron and a visor (face shield) if needed to suit the patients needs or the student practitioner. The student practitioner had to change their PPE in a separate room and place their used PPE in a green bag and bin specialised for used PPE. PPE had to be changed between each patient.This made me feel safe but also helps to reassure the patients safety and concerns they may have from the violent spread of COVID-19. This is good as it not only protects the patient but also protects the students as well from being a contribute to spreading COVID-19. I think that the clinic and the students done everything they could to be as safe as possible and that nothing could have been done differently

During an observation on a student practitioner in the ESO Clinic, a young male come in with shoulder pain and gave a very detailed case history and was a bold, confident and bright character. There were 3 forth year practitioners in the treatment room as well as me and the patients mum. As we exited the treatment room and headed up to the clinic tutor to discuss the case, a couple of the student practitioners begun to discuss about the patient in an uncomfortable manner by imitating the young male for a comic effect.

5/11/21 - clinic observation
Before this continuing patient arrived I was made aware that this patient was very anxious and quiet and would not open up to the practitioner. During her treatment, I was left in the treatment room as the student practitioner had went to talk to the clinic tutor about a HVT and was not asked to follow the student. However, in this time I was speaking to the patient about her work and how her days have been and seemed to get quite bit of information from her as she relaxed a bit. I feel that if the student practitioner considered the psycho-social aspects of the patients life then this would increase the effectiveness of this treatment.

In this treatment, consent was gained and effects of treatment were explained to the patient. But during treatment I noticed that the patients facial expressions were scrunched like she was in pain and made fists with her hands so I waited for the student practitioner to say something however the practitioner did not notice as they were more focused on the technique of the treatment itself. I made the practitioner aware in a discrete manner (without the patient knowing) and the student made sure she was okay to carry on with treatment and the patient agreed. The student carried on however the patient was still in pain. It made me question what would I do? - to continue as the patient consented or stop due to the amount of pain the patient was in

Consent
Our first lectures on the ESO campus was being able to gain consent from the model in order to start examination and being able to start treatment. My first time asking for consent was thorough however since then it has changed multiple times from different lectures and whilst observing in clinic. Observing in clinic and other students in lectures ask fro consent has helped me to further gain more consent from a patient that will be specific to treatments and examinations
