Information and Communication Technology played a huge role in making sure that learning continues, it basically worked as communication tool between learners and teachers. The pandemic has made schools to invest in online learning. 

Learners could easily access teachers and teaching materials. It also reduced costs of travelling and other expensinses such as accommodation for those who stay in remote areas. It also allowed students to attend classes from any location meaning students were not restricted by geographical boundaries. There are also fewer chances of of missing out on a lesson. Learners were able to receive immediate feedback and results of the tasks they did and this allowed them more time to focus on improving where they got it wrong.Online lessons can be recorded and learners can have access if they missed their class. Online learning allows students to access learning material at a time of their comfort. 
 
Teachers had less marking to do. The system is able to mark other tasks. Which made the work easier for teachers. They were also able to communicate with learners.

If such measures had not been put in place, there would be greater disruption to the global education. Through learning resources including video conferencing applications such as zoom, e-mail, teams, blackboard collaboration and social media, teachers and students are able to continue their teaching and learning activities. 

COVID-19 reminds us that ICT is a principal component of pedagogy in the 21st century. The rapid development of ICT and its application as well as other digital services has great influence on higher education institutions. With all honest and  factual statistics the world is ready to continue with online learning through technological means. This mostly refers to developed countries that have proper infrastructure and unwaving electricity connection. Students and Lectures all over around the world have embraced this with warm hands.Unfortunatelyy for South Africa this is not so, although we wish it could be. 

South Africa is still a developing country so online learning is not yet viable. We have a problem with infrastructure like electricity we almost experience loadshedding now and then. Imagine the situation at KwaZulu-Natal students cannot attend classes online due to no electricity and infrastructure damage.

South Africa still has  a long walk to undertake before changing its self completely to online learning system . Education has been named as the key to success and that has been proven right as an educational background goes a long way for the success of an individual. However since the 4th industrial revolution whereby Information Communications and Technology is used predominantly by both the private and the public sector, a relationship has been found that for better success or better opportunities one has to be equipped and fluent in the use of Digital technology therefore for any individual it is fair that they get a chance to learn ICTs at an early age in order to enable them to progress with the technological advancement as they develop further. Yes it is true that a huge debate has been ongoing about how distractive smart phones can be at school but the validity of that debate leaves a lot to be questioned firstly what form is use were those devices in school, were they regulated by the school as a medium for learning or rather the pupils bring these devices out of their own will to misuse the schools WiFi.
