The world uses over 500 billion plastic bags a year which is 150 for each person on earth. Scientist believe that in the year 2020, the number of plastic in the sea will be higher than the number of fish. While the students are picking up the waste, they will keep track and tally under each category; water bottles, chip bags, straws, grocery bags, wrappers etc.. at which they pick up. After discussing and brain storming in their groups, each group will grab a poster and write these ideas down. Ex. instead of using plastic baggies- pack containers for lunch. Another example can be instead of plastic straws- use mental. The students can get creative and use drawings to display their ideas as well.
