A useful idea to get your students involved in reading

Have students each bring in their favourite book and sit in pairs. Give one member of each pair about a minute to talk about their favourite book to the other person and explain to them why they should read it.

After one minute, have the children swap partners. By the end, every student should have had a chance to promote their book, and will hopefully have found a book they’d like to read!

In the classrooms we have a small reading corner which students use to encourage their love for reading.
These days we are working and looking for poems related to peace and war. Some of them have been written by teens who are suffering its terrible consequences in their countries.

The story of Whittington and his cat is not just a fairy tale: it is part of the folklore of London. Today there is a monument to his cat near the Whittington Stone pub at the foot of Highgate Hill where he sat down and heard the famous Bow Bells of East London ring out:

Thrice Lord Mayor of London!
The real Whittington was Lord Mayor of London in 1397, 1406 and 1419.

This year we have connected World Book Day with 100 birth aniversery of famous Croatian poet Vesna Parun (1922-2010) . Though she wrote over 20 children’s books along with myriad plays and essays, today Parun is best known for the lyrical love poems, one of hers most famous poems is ‘You Whose Hands Are More Innocent Than Mine’.
Some of my students draw a biographical comic and others have read her poems - Girls for Vesna.
