Holden loses his little brother Allie and in the novel we witness these stages of grief. Holden goes through what seemed to be suppressed anger, depression, and acceptance. A lot of his internal feelings over this lost showed in other situations. If Holden didn't wasn't facing this battle he most likely would be different and handling conflicts more mannerly.
Also, Holden relates to the article ,"Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder". Holden not only shares many characteristics with this disorder but his little brother Allie did as well! Holden has trouble with interactions, his emotions tend to be prolonged because he never lets things go, and he gets very attached to objects that he has. the stages of grief are Denial, helping us to survive the loss. Anger, accepting the feelings. Bargaining, the temporary truce with yourself and Depression, the withdraw from life. Richie experiences this after him peewee and Jenkins go out on patrol and Jenkins steps on a land mine. without plainly stating it the book shows all five stages of Richie's grief, form questioning his purpous in the war and why he is there to coming to the conclusion that he in meant to be there to protect his fellow soldiers and stand by them. the second article "PTSD" will affect almost every solider that makes it out of the war because of all the traumatic events that occur. the constant killing of other human beings is not something that should be easy to to or deal with but it was apart of what they had to do almost on a daily.
