• The higher mountsin is the "Pico Almazor" in the "Sierra de Gredos" in the province of Avila forming during the Alpine Oregeny (mountain building), it formed principally of granite and so is no highly weathered .

• Much of the range is made up of water-holding granite , allowing springs to well up close to the summit ,ensuring tha together with snow melt the valley are green throughout the year .this area was one of thr most southerly areas in Europe to be affected by glaciation during the last ice age , particulary in the "Sierra de Gredos "
