* During the Explain Phase of a science lesson, it is very important for a teacher to recognize that English Language Learners will often have trouble expressing their knowledge through writing and verbal communication. Thus, they must differentiate that portion of the lesson; creating and using thinking maps such as a circle map or a flow map can be used to help ELLs organize their thoughts. Also, teachers can incorporate manipulatives into the lesson specifically for their ELLs (Gomez-Zwiep, 81).

* Science is a very important subject for an EL because it permits the individual to develop a more knowledgeable and educated vocabulary. Therefore, the vocabulary concept is a key point to differentiate. While an El student may understand the vocabulary used during the lesson, he or she may not know how to put the vocabulary into proper sentences. As a result, a teacher can create sentence frames that target ELs and help them express their knowledge easier than if they did not have that aid(Gomez-Zwiep, 83).

* Teachers often make the mistake of not merging both English development and science together because they often think of them in two different lessons. However, this article has demonstrated that it is very possible to merge ELD into science. By doing so, students are able to better understand science and participate throughout the lesson because they are getting that extra support within the lesson (Gomez-Zwiep,85).

*In order for differentiated instruction to be effective for all learners, it is fundamental to note that it must be student centered or focused as opposed to teacher focused.
* Teachers must focus and incorporate the culture, intelligences, interests, and other components to assure that students are best able to grasp the concept. Teachers should not focus on their old interests but instead of their students' interests and needs to ensure the learn best.

* Co-teaching is an excellent aid for differentiated instruction because it allows students to be split up based on their needs and wants. For example, if some students learn better hands on and others learn better with visuals, then two teachers can be teaching the same concept except one will focus on teaching with hand-on activities and the other with visuals.
