To get through this tough terrain, Denis and Francis used pack mules to travel. They also came upon many landmarks that Marco Polo described in his journey. Marco Polo claimed to have no shelter during is travels. One difference  between the two travels was that Denis and Francis got a variety of shelters on the Walkhan Corridor.

There they both received a type of document to help help them travel and get into the country. The difference was that Marco Polo wrote that Khan gave him a "golden pallet" to help him travel. Whereas, Denis and Francis received a letter to get into the highly guarded territory. During the time the two men traveled there, it was going through a civil war making it hard to pass through. Marco Polo didn't face that challenge while crossing.

Marco described one of the cities both "teams" visited called, "Ayas" to be a very large and thriving town. He said Ayas was hustling and bustling with new goods and trade. However, in the film, Francis and Denis showed how run down Ayas was. It was almost like nothing was there, but rural land. One thing both travelers had in common with their time in Turkey was the people they met. They people were very hospitable and sincere in both times. Marco Polo felt like he wasn't at home in the town. Denis and Francis describe their time there as not inviting and excluded. However, both very introduced to the idea of Buddhas and what they represent in the Chinese culture. One difference in experiences was how developed the city was. Obviously, back in Marco Polo's time Beijing was a rather small, but thriving town. The culture could not be copied by any other country. The people and buildings were just full of so much color and character. One difference that could be made was the feast that was provided for Marco Polo and not for Denis and Francis. Marco Polo also described the coral to be high priced. How they obtained their ships were different. Marco Polo was given is ship, mainly because traveling by sea was much more common back then. However, Denis and Francis, had to smuggle their way onto a business ship. In each place they visited, each person was different. Either they were a different color of skin or race or they reacted to outsiders, they were all different in their own way. In America we don't see that as often because we are in our own bubble.
