Majority of the time, my stress comes from having a very busy schedule while trying to find time to do tasks. This includes, schoolwork, physical activity, nutrition, and having a social life. I tend to say yes to everything because I like staying busy and I'm a people pleaser. I work on prioritize my needs above others when necessary. I also want to focus on not allowing my mind to wander and constantly think about my to-do lists. I also want to work on prioritizing what tasks need to be completed and which ones can wait. I tend to try to finish everything all at once, which is not realistic.

I wrote down some of the things she
said that made me see and understand stress differently. I try to repeat them to myself when Im in a stressful situation or feeling stressed or anxious.

"Caring creates resilience."
"When you choose to view your stress response as helpful, you create the biology of courage."
"You Can trust your self to handle life's challenges.

Today, I finally had a day off and was going to clean and organize my room, among other things on my to do list. I was driving to the store in the morning and I noticed my battery, engine and brake light go on all at the same time. I went to the auto shop and they said I need a new alternator. They told me I couldn't drive my car until it was fixed and they didn't have an opening until 5. This clearly ruined my plans to check things off my to do list, which is how I saw it at first. I could feel myself getting worked up but I took a deep breath and took a step back from the situation for a minute. I told myself this is okay because I can walk to the coffee shop and get a ton of homework done. I was very proud of myself for finding a positive in the situation and making the most of it.

I started making a point to plug my phone in my charger at night and set it in my nightstand. I usually sit on my phone between 30 minutes to an hour before I fall asleep. The last couple nights I lay down for bed around 9:30/10pm and I've been falling asleep no later then 11. Usually I sit on my phone and I don't fall asleep until after 12. When I do this I wake up later then I want to and I don't feel as productive. When I stopped going on my phone before falling asleep, I actually woke up either earlier or on time and had a lot of energy. I was ready to get things done and it didn't take me as long to get up and get moving.

Did you give yourself self-compassion instead of criticism when you made a choice you realized was not aligned with your action plan?

This past week I decided to go shopping with a friend instead of coming home and working on my homework. Instead of getting down on myself and criticizing my choices, I thought positively.I told myself, I deserve this. I recently have been saving more money then spending, which helps release some stress. When I went shopping, I was able to catch up with my friend and talk about something else other then my to do list. I limited my spending and time in order to give myself more then enough time to finish my homework that day.

Something I did this week that was helpful in cultivating my new habit was staying calm and taking a moment before I reacted. I unfortunately had an argument with a friend this week. Usually I have a habit of responding immediately with anger and showing my emotions. At first I did respond, I didn't raise my voice but I could've have voiced my opinion differently. However, my friend responded in a very inappropriate matter by raising her voice and saying very hurtful things. Instead of responding, I simply didn't and remained quiet for quite some time. Although I was angry inside, I didn't voice it. I think in this situation I could've worked on not letting my anger show on my face which could have to do with the fact that I was holding onto the anger for quite sometime. Even though there was a successful moment, there is still room for improvement. I want to be able to let go of anger easily and move on and not let it affect my work or day, even if it is on the inside.

I've been having a super busy week so far. Its hard to stay on top of what needs to be done and also finding that balance of putting myself first and finding moments to be able to take a step away from all the stress. When I'm not able to do things I want or need to do, I easily become stressed. I'm trying to really focus on prioritizing this week and reminding myself if I don't get a certain thing done, especially if it falls under the want category, its O.K. Also, I have a lot going on this week thats work related, that's causing me to have to get homework done before the weekend. I keep catching myself thinking about how much I don't want the weekend to be here because I don't want to do certain things involving my job. I'm trying to remind myself how lucky I am to be able to do what I do and be around people who I'm friends with while at work. This week's goals are about seeing the good in situations and outweighing the pros with cons to help manage my stress and anxiety.

I had some technical issues with my computer this week, which can cause a lot of stress especially while being in school. At first, I was so stressed that I couldn't get anything else done because I was only thinking about the schoolwork I couldn't hand in due to my computer issues. Then I took a second and thought what can I do to help this situation. Therefore, I emailed all my professors and finished all my homework the best I could in case they were to allow me to hand in assignments late. So I took action this week instead of letting my stress over power me, causing me to not be productive.

During this week, I unfortunately had to leave my position at one of my jobs. It was my main job that I put a lot of time and effort into but it no longer is serving a purpose in my life. Instead of looking at this as a dead end or a bad situation and becoming stressed about it, I had a positive mind set. This job took up a lot of my time and was very draining. I wasn't able to do all the things I loved to do. Therefore, I look at this situation as an opportunity to really focus on myself and I also already started looking for a new job that will serve a purpose in my life and allow me to do what I love.
