         <title>The Working Class</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Who? The Working Class during the Progressive Era worked very long, harsh hours. They dealt with poor living conditions due to overcrowding, disease, unpaved streets, and more. </p><p>Where? The working class lived in the United States. </p><p>When? 1900-1917 was when hazardous living conditions was a huge issue for the working class. </p><p>How? Wages were low and places were overcrowded. The working class was important for daily needs, but their work settings weren't the best. </p><p>Why? The working class dealt with long hours and hard labor. But, their work was important for citizens, goods, etc. which is why they were needed during the Progressive Era. </p><p><br/></p><p>There were very few services for citizens to rely on at the time, which is why the working class was important and made a huge impact on the US at the time.          <title>The New Consumer Culture </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>What? The new consumer culture was a lifestyle that became very focused on spending money to buy material goods. </p><p>Who? Majority of the consumers were from the middle-class. </p><p>How? This began to take shape in the 1920s. It started due to workers' strong desire for access to consumer goods. </p><p>Why? It was a culture of consumers desperate for time-saving and leisure commodities. </p><p>When?          <title>Panic of 1873</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>What? This was a financial crisis that triggered an economic depression in Europe and North America. </p><p>Who? It triggered the "Great Depression" in the United States and more. </p><p>When? 1873. </p><p>How? This first started when the stock market crashed. Investors began to sell off the investments they had in American projects, particularly railroads.</p><p>Why?          <title>Scientific Management</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>What? Frederick Taylor published a book known as "The Principles of Scientific Management" that suggested productivity would increase if occupations were optimized and simplified. This applied to big-city governments principles that had been used to organize large businesses. </p><p>Where? The Scientific Management Movement began in Philadelphia factories. Overall, SM began in the US.</p><p>When? 1880s and 1890s</p><p>Why? Like I said above, this would drive greater productivity and get rid of the inefficient ways of working. </p><p>How? Taylor created the scientific management theory, which really got it all started. </p><p><br/></p><p>This improved the economy and helped keep businesses organized.          <description><![CDATA[<p>What? Knights of Labor was a union founded in 1869. They pressed for the eight-hour work day for laborers. They also embraced a vision of society in which workers would own industries in which they labored, rather than capitalists. They wanted to end child labor as well. </p><p>When? This was founded in 1869. </p><p>How? This group originated as a secret organization for protecting its members from employer retaliations. </p><p>Why? They wanted to organize workers into the union to i improve working conditions for laborers. </p><p>Where?          <description><![CDATA[<p>What? This is a nation federation of labor unions in the United States. It's an alliance of craft unions eager to provide mutual support and disappointed in the Knights of Labor. </p><p>When? This was founded in 1886. </p><p>Where? Founded in 1886, in Coumbus, Ohio. </p><p>Why? This provided resources and support to trade/craft workers. </p><p>How? This was formed after the KOL rejected a proposal reaffirming the historic divide of trade-union and labor-reform functions. The craft unions then revolted.
