Project Management- Fashion Show

Naomi Mills

While at Dundee and Angus College, along with my fellow classmates I was heavily involved in the organisation and running of the annual Fashion Show. The project had a starting date of January 9th 2017 and ended on March 29th 2017. Neither dates were at all flexible due to the nature of the project, the starting date could not be brought forward due to College holiday dates, the Christmas period and other educational commitments.

The budget for the project was set at £2000, which would be generated through ticket sales, fundraising and college funds. The show did however go over budget by £450, which reduced overall profits.

The objectives of the project were:
- To generate funds for local charities.
- To work in partnership with Dundee United Football team and a mix of local retailers.
-To promote the latest Spring/Summer 2017 trends.

Constraints of the project was mainly due to lack of communication and commitment from retailers. This caused issues especially when one of the main retailers, Oasis pulled out two weeks before the show.
This resulted in amendments of the shows running order and the music playlist. We also had to contact retailers and ask if they could provide an extra outfit for the show on short notice. Another constraint of the project was personality clashes within the project team, this caused arguments and tension which had to be resolved quickly.

Overall the project was deemed as a success as we met our objectives however there was most definitely room for improvement.

Working alongside Project Implementation for John Lewis Customer Orders

In 2011 I joined a brand new team working alongside Project Implementation that was branded the customer orders team. The idea of the project was to centralize a majority of the logistical administration duties in the organisation. This entailed 3 phases prior to a full migration taking place.

The first and second phase stagerred most of the John Lewis branches whilst the department was building up to full resource capacity. Once the 3rd phase was implemented the department struggled due to being under resourced however this was then rectified several months later. The way in which this was address was by allocationing 30%+ extra resource within the department.

Despite adversity the project was deemed an overall success with the department being voted the best department within the business 2012.
