As families sign into Science Night they will receive a sheet with the rotation schedule that includes the group number, the pod of the room, the room number, and the order of the activities.

For Example: If I were in group 5, I would look at the table with the group number on the table and sit down just to make sure there is less likelihood of getting lost. Then the parents and the students look at their sheet with the group number and look at the schedule, once released they are in order of activities.

                      Group 5

         Rotation 1: Room 102 Venus with Ms.Teacher

Rotation 2: Room Pod Mars with Ms.Somara

         Rotation 3: Room 202 Earth with Mr.Allora

Rotation 4: Room Pod Mercury with Ms.Murphy

Rotation 5: Planet 207 Jupiter with Mr. Gonzalez

Rotation 6: Room Pod Saturn with Ms.Greer

         Rotation 7: Planet 212 Uranus with Mr.Galindo

Rotation 8: Room Pod Neptune with Ms. Rodriguez

Players gain points by landing on spaces representing Earth’s water cycle. Each space is marked with the number of points it is worth.

PLAYER ORDER & STARTING POSITIONS Players roll a 6-sided die to determine Player Order for each turn. The Player with the highest number chooses their starting position first and the Player with the lowest number chooses last. If more than 1 player roll the same number, each of those players roll again. The starting positions are the Clouds, Mountains, Glacier, Lake, River and Ocean (marked in rectangular spaces). Players cannot choose the same starting position and don’t gather points when rolling for starting position. Hint: Choose a starting position that puts you close to a space with a lot of points!

MOVING YOUR PIECE Players take turns rolling a 6-sided die based on player order. Players can choose any path in order to win. However, players must follow the natural flow of Earth’s water cycle (follow the arrows). Example: If you are in the Ocean, you cannot travel upstream into a River. Players must move the same amount of spaces as their dice roll and collect the number of points of the space they land on. Example: If your turn ends on Clouds, you collect 1 point for that turn.

The STORM ZONE consists of the Rain Cloud, Thunderstorm, Tropical Disturbance, Tropical Depression, Tropical Storm, and Hurricane spaces.

Hint: Lower dice rolls in the STORM ZONE will get you more points! Careful: If you land on the Rain Cloud space, you must follow the rain path back to the Ocean and work your way back to the STORM ZONE.

This represents the axis about which the earth rotates. One end is north and the other end is south. Place a rubber band around the center of the ball (the earth’s equator). Looking at a globe or a map, find your approximate latitude, and place the tack or dot there. (For example, San Francisco is at 37.75˚ north, so placing the tack not quite halfway between the equator and the North Pole is an acceptable approximation.) Use the scissors to make a hole in the bottom of the plastic cup, near the side, as shown above. It should be just large enough to accommodate the diameter of the straw. Take an 8-cm piece of tape and stick a 2-cm piece to the center of the 8-cm piece (sticky sides together). Place the straw into the hole in the cup, and use the modified tape to hold the straw against the side of the cup, yet still allowing the straw to rotate in the hole. Your model should look something like the picture on the left. Use a protractor to check the angle of the earth’s tilt. It should be 23.5 degrees.
