As we studied student informational pieces, we noticed a few important features that we can use while creating our future pieces.
One of the first things we noticed as we observed the first piece were visuals. The visuals gave us more knowledge about the topic, and made the information more real.
Another thing we noticed were statistics. The statistics lead us to strongly believe what was being told. They supported many of the facts and reasons that were in the presentation. This feature is something that we plan to use in the future on our pieces.
A third thing that we noticed was bolded words inside the text. The pieces that we observed had a few bolded words within paragraphs that were further explained in the glossary. This was meant to give us (readers) a better understanding of the sentence the word was in. It proved very helpful and we plan to use it too.

While observing these three informational writing projects, I observed that there were many similarities between them. A few examples of things that each project included in them were a table of contents, an introduction, statistics within the text, a glossary, many text features, quotes within the text, resources, bolded words etc. All of the projects were unique but they still all had the basics like the introduction, conclusion, resources, and quoted facts. Each project also mainly followed a text structure. For example, one followed cause and effect and another one followed problem and solution. Once we start working on our own projects I think that I will refer back to all these things that others used to then add them to my project.

Today in class we observed three example of informational writing pieces. While observing these pieces we found many things that they included in their presentations. A few examples that we found in the first text to include in our presentations were using a table of contents, pictures and diagrams match the topic of discussion, include text features, put a lot of effort, recap your text, and include a nice and neat bibliography. Most of these things we found in these examples which means we should for sure include them in ours. Most of these were their own and unique. They added much of their own to make it their own.

Some examples that we found are statistics, table of contents, bolded words/glossary, quotes, text structures, images, and everlasting thoughts. When we start our projects we will look back at these mentor texts and use these strategies to our advantages. All though all of the projects are unique that all have the basic text structures like Introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusions.

One thing that all the sample texts included a table of contents, text features, statistics, and found a lot of good information. The texts also had cause and effect and problem and solution. Some of the mentor texts had maps and graphs. One of the mentor texts had a fact bubble to tell us a quick fact they found. A mentor text also had a glossary to tell us a definition of a word. They also had one side they wanted but also put good/bad things about the topic. All these examples of the mentor texts helped us identify some key things to put into our informaional writing piece.

Well, observing these mentor texts I noticed a couple things that were similar between the texts that were really key to have in your project. I noticed a lot of similar things that accrued in the text. Some things that accrued where the main topic, statistics, quotes, pictures, table of contents, problem and solution, and cause and effect. These examples showed me all the things I needed to do to accomplish an informational project. All the projects had very clear topics and many things to support their thinking. A lot of the texts helped me get a clear understanding of the project, and even some of an idea of a topic I might choose.

In the three examples, I noticed that there were a lot of pictures that explained what they're talking about. There were also some graphs. In all of them they had a table of contents and images supporting what they believe. They also all had quotes. One of them had a glossary and with that glossary, they had bold words so if the reader didn't know what a word meant and it was bolded then they know were to look to have a better understanding of what they're trying to say. They all have at least three reasons that support their topic. One of them wich I liked and a fact bubble to help support them better. They had some maps too so the reader could see where it affected most of the world/country. They had some gustons with facts so the reader would maby want to find out more about the topic

Those three samples were based on problems, and solutions, which was one of our text features. We took some notes about the important things we should include in our writing pieces. There were many things I noticed the were very important. Such as the Table of Contents. This Text Structure is really important. It lists each topic that you will be reading about throughout the text. These samples also had many images and diagrams. They help support the main topic. Another major thing I noticed was the Glossary. This helps us with words that were throughout the text that we didn't understand, or that was new to us.

Also, in all of the texts their was always a bold idea or statement that the writer was trying to tell you about, every sample that we looked at had a lot of strong facts and ideas for us to give us an idea to put in our stories or essays.

The first mentor was on Bottled water, the text had a very neat setup, easily understood. It also many text features like; A table of contents, pictures, diagrams, headings/subtopics, etc. Now we may not all have so much text but this example was very informational too! Can’t forget the problem and solution combined with cause and effect. Very well written if I do say so myself. Now the second mentor text was very similar along with the third mentor text. The only differences were that the 2nd and 3rd mentor texts had many resources and the 2nd mentor text was very visual too. The 2nd mentor text also had a glossary and bolded words to tell us they were in the glossary. The 3rd and final mentor text had fun facts and they looked very inviting too but that's just my opinion! All 3 mentor texts were very well written and very inspiring to all of us I think to write with our brains and our hearts in mind about our topic or situation we are writing about.

Project Examples: Informational Writing

Today our class observed some great mentor texts falling in the informational writing category. When looking at the three texts, there were many recurring similarities and also some unique differences. One thing I saw continuously appear in the beginning was a table of contents. The table of contents helped us reader follow along with the different subtopics within the entire piece. Another continuous feature within each text was the Introduction. I noticed in each introduction the writer included a brief description of the topic, they introduced the main idea, and gave reader clues on what text structures will be used throughout the piece. I noticed the main text structures were problem and solution, and cause and effect. Also, I noticed the variety of text features used to really help the reader comprehend to the writer's ideas. Some text features i documented include statistics, graphs (pie or bar), maps, images/visuals, diagrams, personalized images, bolded words, and much more. Throughout each informational writing piece I noticed the reliable facts and direct quotes; some writers even included were the source, directly in the text. Towards the end of each project, I saw the conclusion. The conclusion restates the main idea, reaped all the solutions of the problems, and reminded reader of the effects of the topic. At the very end of each presentation, most kid's included a glossary if they didn’t define the words within the text. I noticed the writers also added organized bibliographies to give credit for the original writers quotes and images. All in all, I witnessed many similarities that extremely helps each writer's informational piece.

They all had a table of contents, they also had headers, and they all had graphics in their project. They are really helpful to use when you are doing the project. These are all text features that will help your understanding of your project when you are doing your project.

I learned from all of the texts are that you should include graphics and write in paragraph form. I also learned that you can use plain backgrounds so that it looks professional so that you can read the text better. You can also include a glossary and fun facts, either in the texts or in a graphic. You can also use graphs, charts and maps.

Today we looked at three sample texts for our research-based writing projects. We noticed some similarities throughout all of them. Some of them are that all of them had numerous text features throughout. All had graphs and images on each slide. These text features helped readers understand the text a lot better. Another thing that all of them had was a table of contents. While some of them were more complex, all showed what the readers would be learning about. They all helped give a perspective on how the text would be laid out. Something else that was similar is that in each introduction, they give statistics. Each one showed some very interesting statistics on the topic that their project was on. The last similarity is that the conclusions all had ways to solve the problems. Each one gave numerous ways to solve the problem that they wrote about.

Looking at these example mentor presentations, we noticed lots of different text structures involved in each presentation. A couple things we noticed in each mentor text was table of contents, thesis statements, headings, problem/solution, and surprising facts. These structures, along with others are good to have in your writing because they help bring all the facts and examples back to the main topic. The introduction and conclusion are a very valued thing to have when making a researched based topic because it helps introduce the topic/idea to the reader, and tie it all together to help solve the world wide issues. Intros also help to hook the reader into reading and getting interested in the topic you are trying to inform. Images also help to explain your thinking to other readers who may not understand. The images need to relate back to your main topic or else it won’t make sense. The final thing you really need in these projects is a bibliography. You need to cite all your sources so that people know where you got your different facts and so you aren’t plagiarizing. You need bibliographies for facts and pictures.

Some that we might use in our project, such as pictures, table of contents, glossary, graphs, pie charts, headers, bold words, maps and, fun facts. Other things we gathered are questions, pointing out the reader, problems, cause and effect, problem and solution, main point, facts, and artifacts. These all are the main things that they used to complete their projects and make it come all together so the reader could understand their project.

The things we noticed from the sample drafts are things of importance. They had a table of contents, graphs, and a lot of text features. The table of contents showed what the viewer would see in the presentation. It was also handy for finding a certain section of the presentation, such as in the water bottle sample, they showed a section about what is the effect of bottled water. In the presentations, they show graphs about statistics and progress of a problem. It help shows what is the importance to stop a problem, or show the accumulation of the problem. These sections were examples of important text features. More are headers and bolded words. Text features show importance in the problem by emphasizing it. All of these are good examples of what a good presentation should have.

After looking at the three mentor texts on the research-based projects, we noticed some universal ideas that could help us while we write ours. One of the things that we noticed was that all three projects had a table of contents in the beginning. This is important because it gives the readers a map of the presentation so they can easily find what they are looking for. Another thing that we noticed in all of the presentations was that they all explained the problem throughout the slides. This is significant because it gives the reader a clear understanding of what they are reading about. This helps prevent the reader from being very confused and lost. Yet another thing that stuck out to us from the presentations were the text features. Some of the text features that we noticed were pictures, maps, fun facts, bold letters, and headings. These are important to include in your research-based projects because some of them can give a visual understanding of what you want to get across. Also, headings along with bold letters can lead readers to get a clear understanding of the topic and what words mean. Lastly, all the presentations included a solution to the problem they were talking about. This gave the readers a way to know how to help or just know ways that could help solve the problem. All this shows how a great research-based project includes the readers to make sure they understand the true problems clearly.

Looking at sample project number one, we noticed quite a few things. One of them being a table of contents, which gives the readers a sense of organization and an idea of where certain facts can be found. A table of contents can be found throughout all of the samples. We also noticed they all have an introduction, which gives readers an overall view of the project and writing which will follow. They all also have a conclusion, which will remind readers what kind of information they have found, and sums up what the project was about. We also noticed that there were a lot of small facts, which gives the reader more information about the topic, and can be found throughout all of the presentations. They also all had a few main topics, which can connect problems to bigger issues, which can involve economy, health issues, government, etc. This can show the readers the significance of the issue. We also found a number of text features, including big facts, graphics, headings, captions, in-text citations, bibliographies, and glossaries, and once again, these can be found in all of the samples. We even found out that you can create your own text features! Text features help demonstrate what the author is describing. We noticed things throughout all of the samples which include pros/cons, problem/solution, and cause/effects. These things show how things can be solved, which helps demonstrate the topic. No elaborate backgrounds or flashy things were used to help simplify the project and show all the important details. All of these projects had a conclusion which gave a final overview of what the readers have read.
