Remake of Novels in Verse First Impressions by Kim Hanan-West

Please reflect on your first experience reading your novel in verse. In your initial post, consider the following questions:

Have you read poetry before? If so, do you like it? Why or why not? Have you read a novel in verse before? What was your first reading session like? What did you enjoy? What was challenging? What is your story about so far? Provide a brief summary of what you read in the first 20 minutes. What questions do you have so far about your story or the writing style? Predictions?

Heaven looks a lot like the Mall
It's a very interesting novel written in free verse, talking about the events leading up to a girl being put into a coma due to a dodgeball game, and how she experiences her "near death" in the mall of her home town where her mother works. The protagonist feels relatable to me, feeling imperfect in her little world, mind racing a million miles a minute, many thoughts occurring in a single second even in attention-demanding scenarios. The book feels more like a normal book rather than a novel in verse, but it's not hard to notice the formatting and the general rhyme of the book.

So far, I'm enjoying a long way down; I appreciate how it's written in a poetic style while still being easily relatable. I've read several of Alexander Pushkin's writings in the past, but this writing style is very different. Although the novel is not difficult to read, the author employs descriptive language to full advantage.

So far, I find the novel really interesting in the sense that you can really understand how the person is feeling and what it was like for them. The main character, Allison, was just the typical hardworking student, but it all went downhill-ish after she dreamt about having brain cancer. (She believes it was a premonition). The antagonist of the novel is Allison herself, her brain is stuck on one idea (her having brain cancer) where everything else doesn't seem important anymore. All I've read so far was her giving some background to explain how her life was like in the days before the dream, and the day after the dream.

A long way down makes you figure things out and doesn't give all the details. However, I like how it is written and how some of the poetry makes shapes on the page. So far it seems to be about loss and anger, as well as finding your place in the world. Also, the elevator is either magic or the people getting on are hallucinations, because they shouldn't be there. I think that so far the story is mostly in his head.
