Ensuring there is good housekeeping in the darkroom, including keeping it uncluttered to prevent tripping over any chemicals, equipment, etc. Also, eating, drinking or smoking should not be permitted in the darkroom.  

Segregating the chemicals is important and they should not be stored near the reducer as this could affect the chemicals' strengths. Containers should also be clearly labelled and stored in place which will minimise the risk of spillage/breakage. Containers and trays must also be closed or covered during the time they are not in use to stop the release of toxic gases.
