An example of this was when Johnny killed Bob. He killed Bob because Bob was hurting Ponyboy and Johnny didn’t want anything to happen to Ponyboy. After Johnny killed Bob Ponyboy thought this, “Johnny had killed someone. Quiet, soft spoken little Johnny, who wouldn’t hurt a living thing on purpose, had taken a human life”(62). Johnny also told the gang the he wanted to turn himself in to protect Johnny from being separated from his brothers.

One example of this is when Johnny and Ponyboy are in the vacant lot and he was willing to listen to what Ponyboy had to say so that Ponyboy knew that Johnny would be there for him no matter what. Johnny listened to Ponyboy the night that Darry hit him, "It was Darry. He hit me. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't take him hollering at me and hitting me too. I don't know… sometimes we get along okay, then all of a sudden he blows up on me or else is naggin' at me all the time” (50). Johnny was really listening and cared about what Ponyboy had to say. Another example of this is when Johnny and Ponyboy are sitting in the church and Ponyboy is scared, and Johnny tells him that Ponyboy shouldn’t be punished for this and that he should be punished instead.

An example is when his parents are yelling at him to get out of the house because he is unwanted. Johnny has mixed feelings about his family, "I think I like it better when the old man's hittin' me."Johnny sighed. At least then I know he knows who I am. I walk in that house, and nobody says anything. I walk out, and nobody says anything. I stay away all night, and nobody notices. At least you got Soda. I ain't got nobody"(51). Another example is when Johnny’s mom comes to the hospital and Johnny says that he doesn’t want to see his mom at all when he is about to die.

We know this because in the story he was a main character, and did not have any conflicts with the other protagonists. We also saw the inside of Johnny’s mind and different points of view, so that makes him a dynamic character. He is also a round character because we learned a lot about him as we read the story. Johnny is viewed by his friends as a scared puppy, “If you can picture a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers, you'll have Johnny”(11). Another example of this is when Johnny gets jumped in the beginning of the story.

In the results, it says “advocates tend to see helping others as their purpose in life”. This strongly relates to Johnny, as he helped many people throughout the story. It also says it is easy to make connections with others. Even though he sometimes struggled with it, once he trusted someone, other connections came quickly. His strengths are being decisive, and passionate. His weaknesses are being too private and being a sort of perfectionist. In the results from the personality test, this sounded very similar to Johnny´s personality.  “The passion of their convictions is perfectly capable of carrying them past their breaking point and if their zeal gets out of hand, they can find themselves exhausted, unhealthy and stressed. This becomes especially apparent when Advocates find themselves up against conflict and criticism – their sensitivity forces them to do everything they can to evade these seemingly personal attacks, but when the circumstances are unavoidable, they can fight back in highly irrational, unhelpful ways.”  An example of this is when he kills bob to protect Ponyboy. He is sincere to his friends. The advocate personality type is very private, he doesn’t share his thoughts and feelings. Another example of Johnny being the advocate personality type is when he saved all the kids from the church. He wasn’t thinking about his safety, but the safety of the kids trapped inside. He was willing to take a risk to save others.
