Purpose of adaptation:
A2 - to survive in their natural habitat

Write up:
Horseflies which feed on mammal's blood, possess an ability to see polarized (American Spelling) light. This enables them to pinpoint puddles with accuracy: The light reflected by the surface of the water is polarized, as may be seen when they are viewed through polarized sun glasses which cut out horizontal light rays, such as reflection from the sea.

Horseflies use this method to detect the pools where they lay their eggs and find their prey: The herbivores that come there to drink. They have adapted this to find puddles of water more easily ensuring the continuation of their species.

Done by - Kiran (23), Elisha (34), Hein Htet

(14), Wei Yu (28)

Purpose of adaptations:
A1 - to cope with physical conditions

Write up:
The Venus Flytrap is a special type of plant. It is a carnivorous plant, and its leaves are not used for photosynthesis. It is used to trap small prey such as insects.

Its only two leaves are shaped like a clam, and is usually open wide, if not in the process of digesting its prey. When an insect or prey comes into contact with the sensitive hairs attached to the inside of the leaves enough to bend them, it triggers the leaves to clamp shut at a startling speed of less than a second.

The leaves trap the prey very tightly and does not open until its prey is digested into nutrients, which would be absorbed by the plant to obtain energy and survive. The digestive process takes about 5 to 12 days, depending on some factors like how big the prey is, the age of the plant and the number of times the plant has done the process.

The prey's exoskeleton would be blown away in the wind or washed away by the rain.

Done by: Reece(36), Shawena(38), Miza(32), Sheng Bin(30), John Doe & Jane Roe

Purpose of adaptation:
A4 - to protect themselves against predators

Write up:
The spider curls up into a ball to roll and escape from predators. It does this when it is spotted by predators such as the desert wasp. First, it will use its front legs to dig a hole in the sand in an attempt to hide from predators. The spider will then fill the hole up with sand to blend in with the sandy landscape. Upon being spotted by predators, it will curl up into a ball and roll down the dune. It rolls up to 44 revolutions per second.
If the spider can't outrun the predator, it will out-roll it.:)
Made by:
Derrick (26), Joo Won (22), Reanne (35)
