2)    This compares to my knowledge of teachers/teaching as most teachers are not like this one. This teacher is lazy, rude, insensitive, all qualities in a bad teacher. I never experienced this type of teacher, and would rarely hear about one. However, these types of teachers do exist. Teaching should not be a fall back/back-up plan for any college student, teaching is not some hobby, it is a profession that takes time and dedication to become good at. There are other options besides becoming a teacher, and it is devastating to the teaching profession when these types of teachers are portrayed, and students experience these types of teachers. 

 

3)    This is the one I am steering clear of becoming and will regularly assess I am not becoming. As a student I would absolutely hate this type of teacher. As a teacher I would want my class to be one that students look forward to, even if they despise math, not one that is dreaded throughout the day. This type of teacher fails each aspect of the FSEHD Disposition assessment and should not even qualify to be a teacher. 

I selected the song, Try Everything by Shakira for many reasons. This song will not only lift your mood, but will inspire you to be the best version of yourself. To truly “try everything” if it’s something meaningful to you. As well as to believe in yourself and to expand your horizons. This song is nothing short of a joy ride.

I do believe that if this song is describing teachers then it is describing them in a positive nature. This form of media is showing the vibrant and accepting side to teachers. The caring, nurturing, and motivating side that most teachers have. This song can be one-sided as well. Like I mentioned before, this song shows the positive side to teachers, but teachers can have negative aspects as well. I chose this song because I personally like to believe that all teachers have this positive energy when around their students. I prefer to look at the more positive side to most situations so this song covers the more joyful side to the world of teaching.

The song compares with what I currently know about teachers and teaching in many ways. Teachers do everything that I listed above. They are constantly supporting and engaging with their students to help them achieve their dreams and goals. Teachers teach because they want to help and develop a connection with their students to help them succeed in every way possible. This song delivers the message that teachers strive for on a daily basis. That being if you care about something so much, try and reach for the stars. To keep pushing and striving for better things in life. To always be the best version of yourself.

“Try Everything” is able to expand upon the development of my teacher identity. This song is what drives me to become a better individual and future teacher. The lyrics are something that I am able to connect with and that I hope to expand upon when I am older. I want to be able to provide and inspire the young minds that I will soon be teaching. I want each and every one of my students to succeed and to always work towards what they truly believe in. I want to support them when they fall and congratulate them when they have their breakthrough moment. I want to show that any little step in the right direction is progress. I believe that “Try Everything” is about overcoming the obstacles that come with life and I want to inspire my students as much as this song inspires me. I want my future students to hear this song and connect with the idea that you can do it if you put your mind to it. 

This song also connects with the FSEHD Dispositions and most of the course readings in many ways. This song relates to the idea of if you are struggling then to ask for help and to get back up again and try harder. To accept help from others and to use tools to help you succeed. The lyrics mention the idea of sharing, to grow as an individual, and to embrace yourself as a human. These aspects tie into the FSEHD Dispositions beautifully. Many of these examples are things that are mentioned in the FSEHD Dispositions. “Try Everything” also ties into most of the course readings that we have read so far. The song and the readings mention real life feelings and stories where one has to make a change for the better. To not keep living day to day without fixing the problems at hand. To try and make the world a better place. Both the FSEHD Dispositions and readings connect and relate to “Try Everything” greatly. 

To begin with, I selected this video because it shows how the teachers, faculty, and staff genuinely care about the students. The teachers at Saint Patrick’s help students when needed. I was once a student and because of these teachers, I wanted to become one of them. In addition, the majority of the students say they can call their class a “family”. I believe that the teachers here really know what it is like to be a teacher. From experience, they always wanted the best for each and every student even if they did not teach them. In this school, all the teachers knew every student and how far they had come from. 

This video compares what I already know about teachers is that teachers should always be respectful and always maintain “teacher mode” at school at all times. When they go home that is a different story. First teachers should love their job because it reflects on how they teach and treat their students. Secondly, teachers should be patient with their students because some students learn quicker than others, and everyone is capable of learning. Some just take more time than others. Overall, teachers should understand their students. As well as keeping their cool at all times. Once again, being respectful and have some fun. You do not want to have a boring class. For example, some people dislike Math or English. It is good to switch it up and make it so that the students would want to participate and engage in class. You do not want students to fall asleep in your class as well.

My developing teacher identity compares to this video because it truly shows what a teacher should be. Does not matter if you are religious, have a different, background. All of that does not matter. No one should be treated differently because of it. Some teachers at Saint Patrick Academy are not Catholic. Although that is where one should be respectful of other religions or backgrounds of any sort. . Therefore, being a teacher you have to treat all students the same. There are teachers who play favorites. It could make others feel left out. We should all be equal. We are all going to school for the same thing, to learn. In terms of FSEHD, teachers should push their students to be successful and never give up on them. When I do become a teacher, I will push my students to become the best version of themselves. They should want to grow and will grow to achieve their goals. I want students to feel comfortable and know that we as teachers are here to help them with what we are able to help them with.

This project is supposed to show what kind of teacher id like to identify as. Personally, this small little clip means a lot more than it actually shows. Ive had first hand experiences with good and bad teachers throughout my career of education; therefore, those experiences shaped how I want to represent myself as a teacher. This clip shows how this teacher was able to create such a fun environment with his class. By the looks of this, is clearly having a fun time with his job, and the kids are sure having a fun time too. I would say this teacher is a “good teacher”, which is one of the reasons I chose this, because I want to be looked at as a teacher that the kids would be looking forward to to go to. Also the use of sports is important to me. In my career, I still want to be associated with sports somehow, this is an example of how that is possible.

With my knowledge of teacher, this is an example of a teacher who likes to create personal relations with his students. Ive learned that engagement is key, and how you want to kids to be exited and ready to learn once they get into class. Even though he is dunking the ball over the kid, which is impressive, he could use this as an incentive, which will ultimately push the kids harder to achieve more goals the teacher lays out for them. Also, comfortability. The idea of comfortability goes along with managing relationships as well, because of how he is connecting with his students through fun activities like sports, and becoming more likable by the students. As a teacher, it is ideal to be likable and approachable.

 When I think about developing teacher Identity, I think about what’s going on in todays world. It is very important nowadays what is going on (more specifically) in the students’ lives. To know where your students are from, what’s going on in their lives, if there’s any situations at home, who the students like in the classes etc, are all important. As a teacher, you HAVE to. Know these things. Its morally right and respectful to have this knowledge about your students, there is a lot on the line as a teacher when it comes to these sensitive topics , and all of this is essential to know. In the clip, the teacher dunks the basketball over the student. This has a deeper meaning because sports are very important nowadays. Sports engage everyone, no matter the race, gender, etc. The use of sports is universal. Sports, can be used as a getaway for people. Something like the teacher is doing in this clip can make someones day, or even week. This is important for developing personal relationships with your students, while creating more comfortably, making it easier for a students to talk to you openly.

I selected this clip because it captures teachers in a positive light. This commercial is a prime example of how I hope teachers will be remembered and also for what many teachers are known for. Most people do not know all the things teachers actually do and this clip shows people exactly that. The clip shows inside the life of a teacher and all the many different things they do for students. It shows how much teachers care and how much they love their students. It shows characteristics of teachers as well. As a future educator, this is an example of a teacher I hope to become. Most teachers are this way and they do not receive enough credit. So overall, I selected this clip because of the positive way it shows teachers and how it demonstrates the many things that go on inside and outside of the classroom with teachers and feelings. I love this clip because it shows the true dedication and heart of a teacher.

After viewing the clip it compares to what I currently know about teachers and teaching in tons of ways. When I think of a teacher, this video completely captured the vision I have in my head for teachers. The clip says all the things about what being a teacher means. Being a teacher means to cheer up your students, to cheer on your students, to open minds, to ignite their spark, to mend hearts, to share their joy, and to lend an ear. The clip also says how being a teacher is not easy, (also the pay is not great for the work they do) which I don't think many people in society really fully understand. Although teaching is not easy, educators make the conscious decision everyday to show up and that is very telling.  I know not all teachers are like this, but most are! and it should not go unrecognized. Growing up I only have had good experiences with teachers which I know is not the case for everyone so I am very fortunate for that. My son has had great teachers and I see how much they truly care for him and how much they invest in their classroom and students. I also have several friends and family who are teachers, and the teacher described in this video, all the things they do, is what I see in the people I know as teachers and that is who I inspire to be as a future teacher myself. I believe all the things said in the clip about what a teacher does is so important in teaching and by being that example and doing the things listed in the video you will be a successful teacher.

This clip/ commercial is comparable to my developing teacher identity because it is the type of teacher I hope to be one day. As a teacher I aspire to do all those things in the clip they are saying teachers do. I already do have those qualities about myself but there is still so much to learn and I cannot wait to be able to set an positive example for children.  At the end of the clip the speaker says, "After all teachers do more than just teach our children, they inspire them."
This is so on point for me as a future educator because I hope one day to teach children of course, but I also want to do so much more than that for them. I want to inspire them. The teachers that are described in this clip I believe pass all the aspects of the FSEHD Disposition assessment. They truly care about their students and want whats best for them and are dedicated and passionate about what they do. By doing all the things described a teacher does in the clip it will make a student feel safe, loved and trust, which will help student's in a positive way learning and in the classroom. I want to be a positive teacher like the one in this clip and appreciate this positive clip on teachers overall.

In my past experiences, teachers did not always perform in this way. Some really see it as a job and only that. They go to teach the material, and get paid. That is not my goal. Again, I want to leave a mark… and not just any mark, but a positive one. This particular video clip and the type of teacher that Mr. Feeny is, inspires me to do just that. I know that it is not always going to be easy; it will usually be very difficult. Despite this, I will do my best to make my students feel welcome and to unlearn any potential biases that I may have, just as we have learned in class. I will aim to make my classroom feel like a home away from home for the kids and to make them feel safe so that they can be ready/prepared to perform at their best.

With all of this said, this video relates to my developing teacher identity is many ways. It helps to demonstrate some of the qualities I hope to have as a teacher. Mr. Feeny acts as an inspiration for my teaching style, however I will make sure to make it my own. In addition to his very meaningful lessons that apply even outside the classroom, I want to be a little more personable than he was. Throughout the show, Mr. Feeny is depicted as a more strict kind of teacher. It is my intention that I am more fun-loving and nurturing than this. I want my students and I to be able to have fun, while also being able to have those more serious talks sometimes. Overall, Mr. Feeny has provided me with a foundational idea of the kind of teacher that I want to be.

 

I selected the film School of Rock because I personally believe the film accurately depicts how a teacher should treat their students. Throughout the clips shown, Mr. S puts a lot of care into his job but also into his students. In the first clip, Lawrence considered himself to be a loser and did not believe he deserved to be in the band; however, Mr. S cheers him up and gives him the confidence to believe he does deserve to be there. Furthermore, when it came to having to perform in front of a crowd, Tomika believed people would make fun of her weight; however, Mr. S uses his ability to connect with his students to show Tomika that there is nothing to worry about as there are other artists out there just like her and people “worship them” when they are on stage. He goes on to further talk about his weight and how he isn’t perfect either. It’s Mr. S’s ability to give his students the confidence to want to be a part of the band and his ability to really connect to his students and form that sense of community that drew me to this movie. The film is truly a great one to watch because of its comedic aspects, but it also has some great lessons within it. Dewey Finn or “Mr. S” is a failing rockstar who was on the verge of being kicked out of his apartment by his friends. He gets lucky and takes a call on behalf of his friend. Dewey decides to take the substitute teaching job meant for his friend as a way to make some money. At first, he does not care about teaching the kids and just lets them goof off; however, after learning they take music class at school, he finds a passion to teach the students about rock and even enter them into the “Battle of the Bands”. While not a real teacher, Dewey Finn grows close to the students through music and forms real connections with them. This is why I personally believe Dewey Finn is a perfect example of a great teacher.

This film compares to what I currently know about teaching because I understand how inspirational and dedicated a teacher can be to a student. Throughout the film, there are multiple instances where Mr. S is helping a student who is feeling down about themselves or with an issue that is going on in their life. Teachers should be there to help when students have a problem going on. By building a community within the classroom and being able to know one's students better, one can recognize when a student is struggling. Throughout the film, Mr. S saw how Zach was having a difficult time with music at home with his parents, so he created an exercise where his students could talk about the things that have made them mad. In the final act of the movie, Mr. S chooses to use Zach’s song instead of his own in order to help Zach prove to his parents that music is his passion. Overall, teachers should be there for their students when they need help. Additionally, teachers should be dedicated to their job and love going to school every day. Mr. S knew how to make the classroom fun while also being able to teach the students about music. This is the type of teacher I want to become as I develop my teacher identity. 

 

 

 

My developing teacher identity compares to this film because I feel as though it is very similar to Mr. S’s. As a teacher, I want to be someone a student can turn to in a time of need. However, I also want to be able to know when a student is upset or needs help understanding something without them explicitly telling me. To do that I have to grow a sense of community, much like Mr. S did, within my classroom. I have to be able to create fun but engaging activities where my students can work together and create a bond between me and my students. I personally believe communication is one of the biggest aspects of teaching. It is important that a teacher is able to get his points across to their students accurately, however, it is also about how they go about doing so. A teacher has to keep their class engaged and make sure the students leave that class at the end of the day saying they learned something. In the terms of FSHD, I believe Mr. S fits all the qualities of someone who would be able to pass the test and someone who is a true example of a great teacher. Countless times throughout the film, we saw Mr. S build a sense of community by growing closer with his students through music. He was there for his students to help them through difficult situations in times of need. He made his class fun and engaging by getting the students to want to learn more about rock music. Mr. S contains all the qualities of a teacher who cares about his students and is dedicated to his work, so this is who I want to become as I continue to develop my teacher identity.

For this project, I selected a Tiktok that had come up on my "For You" page a couple of weeks ago.  This is Ms. Clarke, a middle school art teacher.  She found this audio, which is derived from a Ted Talk given by Rita Pierson, titled "Every Kid Deserves a Champion."  In this Tiktok, as Pierson is describing the role of a true teacher, Ms. Clarke adds corresponding videos that allow the viewer to follow her around the classroom throughout the day, to show the work of a teacher.  I chose this video because I believe that Ms. Clarke embodies and exemplifies the true meaning of being a "teacher," by showing everything teachers go through behind the scenes that other people don't see.

teachers/teaching?

This Tiktok compares with what I currently know about teachers and teaching, because I have had the pleasure of interning in a large amount of classrooms already throughout my college experience, as well as my high school experience.  Unlike people who do not work in the field of education, I have been able to firsthand experience the silent blood, sweat, and tears that true teachers put into their work.  I have worked with teachers who give their ALL to the students, who stay behind late after school forming valuable lesson plans, cleaning up, basically resembling Ms. Clarke, but I have seen negligent teachers as well.  Teachers who don't put in that much work, and who come in at the latest time possible and leave at the earliest time possible.

My developing teacher identity compares to this Tiktok in many ways.  First, Ms. Clarke is exactly the teacher I have always dreamed of being.  I stated in my Teacher Identity Project that I didn't really know exactly what my style of teaching is, or how I envision my classroom to be set up.  Though I still do not know, I do know this: I want to embody Ms. Clarke.  I want to embody the amount of effort she puts into her students, from coming up with lesson plans to literally disinfecting each and every single marker at a time, to make sure her students stay safe and healthy, amidst the pandemic.  You can tell that Ms. Clarke makes sure that her classroom is inclusive.  You can tell that her heart is pure.  You can tell that no matter the demographic of her class, no matter the level of class her students are in, Ms. Clarke treats them all fairly and all with respect.  You can tell Ms. Clarke is the kind of teacher that students will remember as they grow older, that they will refer back to when someone asks them who was one of their favorite teachers growing up.
People always say that teachers have the easiest job ever. They say "They work 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, and have weekends and summers off." Yes, they could. And some do. But the best teachers don't. The best teachers stay late to make sure the classroom looks perfect for the next day. The best teachers, from not being able to get everything done after school from focusing on what they're going to do the next day, bring their work home to grade at their dinner table. The best teachers form a relationship with each and every single one of their students, all while making sure they teach the curriculum. The best teachers work day in and day out to provide the best experience for their students, even on the weekends coming up with elaborate lesson plans. As Pierson says in the Tiktok audio, "Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and INSISTS that they become the best that they can possibly be. Is this job tough? You betcha. Oh God, you betcha. But it is NOT impossible. We can do this. We're educators. We're born to make a difference." Ms. Clarke IS the champion for her students. The viewer can infer that the way Ms. Clarke keeps her classroom, how much time and energy she puts into it, is EXACTLY how she is for her students. You can tell she is someone who doesn't give up on them and comes into class being the best she can possibly be, no matter what is going on in her outside life. It's not about the money. The money usually is poor compared to other jobs. But I know it is one of the most REWARDING jobs, teaching the future leaders and helping them transform into who they're going to be. That is Ms. Clarke, and that is EXACTLY how I want to be, too.
