The teacher begins with the responsibility of explicitly showing/teaching/demonstrating ideas and skills to the class. This then moves into a group collaborative demonstration whereby the teacher and class work together to obtain knowledge/practice skills. Students are then expected to practice these skills on their own during independent practice
1. Teacher models how to read using read aloud techniques for a specific purpose i.e. creating text to self connections
2. Teacher and class contribute together toward practicing these skills, teacher asks for student contributions and validates their ideas and clears up misconceptions 3. Students attempt to make text to self connections by themselves during independent practice - this is where they are demonstrating the skills that the teacher has explicitly taught in the first half of the GRR model
