Carley Roney, David Lu, and other partners came up with the idea when Carley and David had many frustrations and problems within planning their wedding. Carley never planned to have a wedding let alone go into the wedding business. They got married in 1993, they had many set backs due to the early wedding date. After their wedding the idea sparked after hearing if a friend go into the wedding gift industry and they realized they could help fix the wedding industry.

Carley and David realized the the gap in the wedding planning industry so after they came up with the idea, after a lot of work they finally launched The Knot. The concept of The Knot was a website that had a wide range of wedding planning resources that included venues, planning tools, inspiration for decor, etc.

Affter launching the knot They released how much of a need this was to people. Although not everyone plans to get married, feels the need to get extra help from other, or maybe they just want to plan their own weddings by themselves. The Knot helped those who wanted to get married but didn't know the process of planning. So many thing go into planning a wedding and you want it to be your perfect day. After recognizing the need for wedding planning resourses they saw the opportunity (after their wedding experience) to provide information to those looking to take a load of stress of their hands. This evolved to David Lu and Carley Roneys CD ROM business, WeddingChannel.com. CD ROMs are Compact Disc Read-Only Memory, they store large amounts of data whited helped with wedding planning. They would sellmthese to newly engaged couples to help with planning their weddings.
