I think that this memoir by Carlos Eire was a moving and painfully real experience about moving to the United States as a young child with no parents or family by your side. Carlos tells a powerful story about learning a new culture and language, as well as trying to preserve what he had left of his native language of Spanish and his home country of Cuba. I would recommend this book to people who may not understand the full gravity of what it is like to immigrate to the United States, especially at such a young age. I would like to read more works by Carlos, as well as other immigrants who are willing to share their stories with the world.
