It was not just a slave revolt that started the revolution; Other issues include a class struggle among white land-owners, non land-owners, and free black land-owners. The French, Spanish, and British militaries were also involved.

The French Revolution also had a large impact on the Haitian Revolution. Along with controversies and struggles between social classes. This was also caused by the fact that blacks were not given full freedom because of their skin color. This eventually lead to an uprising of slaves in Haiti. He figured out that these ideas did NOT extend to the non-white man. This view also happens to be shared by the U.S. even though its' pledge is "all men are created equal".
