In 1791, Haiti had a slave problem. This is one of their reasons for declaring independence. They brought African's to the land during 1517. This is when the chaos erupted. In 1804, however a slave rebellion was formed and changed this for the better.

Haiti felt they had a very racist society. Not only did they have a racist society, but they also had slave owners that were excessively brutal. This eventually lead to a slave rebellion in 1804 that changed this.

What triggered the Haitian Revolution?

The Haitian Revolution was started by many things, here are some of them. It was not just a slave revolt that started the revolution; Other issues include a class struggle among white land-owners, non land-owners, and free black land-owners. The French, Spanish, and British militaries were also involved.

The French Revolution also had a large impact on the Haitian Revolution. Along with controversies and struggles between social classes. This was also caused by the fact that blacks were not given full freedom because of their skin color. This eventually lead to an uprising of slaves in Haiti. Slaves also had an extremely high mortality rate which also played into the haitian revolution

Toussant Louverture, former slave and at the time a general, exposed the fake European enlightenment ideals of "liberty and equality for all of mankind". He figured out that these ideas did NOT extend to the non-white man. This view also happens to be shared by the U.S. even though its' pledge is "all men are created equal".

Unfortunately, Louverture died after he was imprisoned by Napoleon, he died of pneumonia and was unfortunately never able to see the revolutions effects on Haiti.
