Isolation
-A theme that looks over the whole book is isolation. Like Hester Prynne, hiding out in a cottage on the outskirts of town showed isolation because of the hardships of getting people to like her in society because of her past actions as it says on page 76 last paragraph, ¨Hester therefore, did not flee..¨.Another example can be Dimmesdale, respected by his community but without a single close friend. Isolation, as shown, can affect people in many ways, and now Hester gets tons of hate towards her and her daughter.

Sin
-In the story The Scarlet Letter, sin can be shown throughout the whole book as a very big deal. People have to be harassed or publicly punished to an extent for it. There are excuses for sins though, like how Dimmesdale makes of his and Hesterś for having a daughter and not telling anyone. It's shown as different to murdering someone because you don't like them if they broke your heart to where your doing a crime for love. A sin is a sin though. It is all up to their society and why they treat Hester Prynne and her daughter the way they get treated while she decides to stay in town.

Of course, one of the symbols is the letter A on Hester Prynne´s chest. This a very important and repeated subject to talk about in the Scarlet letter because the author is trying to get to us that it is a very important symbol. it symbolizes the sin of adultery, and Hester wears it as punishment which can be a hardworking symbol.

The meteor would be another example of symbolism. When Hester and Dimmesdale were on the scaffold, that image appeared and the people/puritans said it was to honor the death in Chapter 12. This is the first time they appear as a family which is a major turning point in the story.

Massachusetts Bay Company was obtained from King Charles I in 1629. The communities of Puritans were Boston, Charlestown, Dorchester, Medford, Watertown, Roxbury, and Lynn. They established a theocratic government. Winthrop, Dudley, and Rev. John Cotton, banished the independence of all other religious views and many different beliefs. By the mid 1640´s it had grown to 20,000 people.Freedom of Religion was not the law in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans came to America so they could practice their religion as they pleased. However, they did not allow other settlers the same religious freedom.
