Within my research of simulations being used within nursing, I learned it allows students to grow within an environment even when not physically placed there. It enables students to learn in a safe space where mistakes may be made in order to better ourselves before entering a real life scenario.

Advantages to Nursing Simulations

Advantages to nursing students using simulations are they allow for growth in a safe environment, mistakes can be made in order to learn from due to not having a real patient/scenario. This also helps to familiarize students with things they may be asked to do in real world situations. Simulations use medication names and allow the student to follow an order of events in order to help their patient care.

Disadvantages to Nursing Simulations

Disadvantages into nursing simulations are these are not real world scenarios. Patients will react in a variety of ways, medications errors need to be avoided and you must consistently recheck yourself in order to have the best outcome for your patient. Not only that but many students may not take simulations as seriously, they may rush through the online scenarios in order to just have the assignment completed. Doing this does not allow for true learning moments that one may need in the real world.

Simulation Usage in Distance Learning

Due to many RN students being distance learners, virtual simulations offered through apps, websites etc help to engage students. By providing patients these students must care for and creating these assignments students must follow in order to practice patient care these simulations are helping to create and keep nursing skills intact. Wether you are already a nurse gaining your BSN or you have just started nursing school, these simulations always have something new to teach. Wether it be something you have forgotten overtime or something you are learning for the first time. They teach patient safety overall and remind you of the order in which one must provide care to their patients.

Nursing Simulation Apps

Two nursing simulation apps I was able to find that have mobile abilities are ATI as well as UWorld nursing. Both ATI and UWorld offer extensive nursing information wether that be through practice tests, simulations as well as updated nursing information. These websites can be used for nursing students as well as individuals who are already nurses. They both have the most basic information to more advanced. Preparing nurses for NCLEX as well as giving them an opportunity to improve on their patient care skills through simulations. This includes medication administration, patient communication, as well as organizational care.

Padlet Advantages and Disadvantages

Personally, this is my first time using the software Padlet. Advantages include easy to use, instructional widgets as well as you are able to customize the Padlet to your liking. Disadvantages include it being the first time I have used the software so at first it did take me a minute in order to know how to start. I believe Padlet makes your presentation easy to follow, this also comes from different layout options you have within the software.
