My name is Mohammad Emchi, and I will be the Qur’an teacher for JK and SK this year. It is a true privilege for me to be teaching your children at Abraar School, and I am dedicated to their growth and success.

For the past 12 years, I have been teaching the Qur’an in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, and Canada, teaching students of different ages and backgrounds in their Qur’anic learning. It brings me great joy to continue this journey with the wonderful students of Abraar School.

Throughout the year, we will explore the beautiful teachings and stories of the Qur’an, helping your children build a strong foundation in recitation, pronunciation, and memorization. The goal is to nurture in them a lasting love for the Qur’an and a sincere connection with its meanings, Insha’Allah.

With the support and encouragement of both home and school, I believe we will witness wonderful growth in their Qur’anic understanding and spiritual development.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan for entrusting me with your child’s Qur’an education. I pray that Allah (SWT) blesses our efforts and makes this year a rewarding and enlightening experience for your children.

My name is Ghada Abou Louz, and I’ll be your child’s Arabic teacher this year insha’Allah. I am also the Sk2 homeroom teacher for the Arabic Immersion Language program. In this welcoming letter, I ask Allah Almighty to make this school year a successful one.

I firmly believe that each child is unique and he/she learns in a different way. One of my duties as an Arabic teacher is to help your child discover his/her individuality and work with him/her to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experience learning creatively and learning through play.

Ms. Dana & Ms.Charmaine

This is my second year as the SK1 Homeroom teacher. With over 20 years of teaching experience,I am passionate about fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for my students. I greatly enjoy working with Ms. Charmaine.

She has worked as the TA for SK1 for over a decade and provides much support and wisdom.

In our SK1 classroom, we strive to create a comfortable, welcoming learning environment for all of our students. We believe that making genuine connections with our students, and their families is the key to a successful school year with many favorable outcomes for everyone.

Our goal is to help each and every child reach their full potential, by highlighting their strengths and helping them work on their weaknesses.

In our classroom, we make sure that all of the students have opportunities to grow and express themselves in whatever way they choose.

We strive to create a fun-filled Islamic learning environment that the children will love to come to every single day.

We look forward to being part of your children's lives, and to seeing their growth as the year progresses insha'Allah.

Phonics

In Senior Kindergarten we use the Jolly Phonics. Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children. The letter sounds are split into seven groups, as shown in the Letter Sound Order chart below.

In the SK1 classroom, students get lots of opportunities to practice their reading throughout the day, we start off with the morning question where they become familiar with the words "yes, so-so, no", and the daily morning message that always starts off with "Assalamu Alaikum" and has a repetitive structure to it, because the key to building confidence in kindergarten aged students is repetition.

We also do group readings of poems, short stories, and sight words.

Writing

In Senior Kindergarten we work on mastering three things:

-letter and word direction (left to right, correct letter formation vs. mirror image etc)
-writing size
-correct letter formation
-spacing between words (with journal writing)

We practice writing in the Jolly Phonics books, on the students' individual white boards, as well as in the students' journals.

Visual Arts

In SK we have one scheduled art period and multiple opportunities for the students to work on art skills throughout the day.

We try to tie the art class to our theme of the week, and sometimes it is tied to a story that we have read or an artist that we have been learning about.

During visual art class, we use tempera paint, pastels, watercolors, crayons, markers, scissors, glue construction paper, card stock, and recycled materials.

We follow the Ontario Kindergarten Program expectations and implement them in our own way.

Drama

In Senior Kindergarten we use role playing to help us figure out what to do in different scenarios, we use this in Islamic Studies Class mainly to help emphasize character traits such as honesty, kindness, leadership, cleanliness, and diversity.

Rhythm

This is a major component of the Kindergarten Program, students will learn to make rhythmic patterns using clapping, stomping, snapping their fingers, or tapping the floor.

Students will also learn nasheeds, and songs related to the curriculum.

Through the use of some of the percussion instruments found in class, the students will get a chance to create their own rhythms for the class to enjoy.

Health and physical activity happen naturally in our classroom every day.

For our DPA (Daily Physical Activity) we often resort to some amazing online tools that are available to us, such as:

- Go Noodle
- Cosmic Yoga
- Exercise Videos on Youtube

We also use OPHEA which is an excellent resource for educators for Physical Education & Health.

Islamic Studies in SK1

Islamic Studies is a daily part of our kindergarten classroom.

Students are taught to say the Islamic Greeting of "Assalamu Alaikum", as well as the du'aas said before eating and before using the bathroom. They also learn the monthly du'aas, and they learn to ask Allah (SWT) for anything that they want.

On Wednesdays, we spend the morning covering Tarbiyah values and sub-values and completing related activities.

On Fridays, we transform our classroom into a masjid where we learn about Allah SWT, the prophets, and valuable character-building lessons on traits such as honesty, kindness, respect, leadership, and diversity.

We use many resources, such as the Tarbiyah Lessons, Iqra Kindergarten Curriculum series, and the Noor Kids Series.

Islamic studies is taught mostly through role-playing, videos, and stories.

Mathematics in SK1

In class students get many chances to indirectly work on many of the math concepts we learn throughout the year.
For example)
-Counting the number of days in the month.
-Completing the pattern on the calendar.
-Collecting the date from the daily question and analyzing it.
-Taking daily votes.

In addition to embedding math in our everyday routines, we do have some focused math classes where we work on mastering the following skills:

-Learning to write the numbers 0-20, and learning to show these numbers in different ways.
-Learning the names and attributes of 2D & 3D shapes.
- Identifying, completing, and naming different patterns.
-Learning how to sort based on 1-2 features.
-Measurement using non-standard units of measurement.
-Introduction to Canadian currency.
-Introduction to telling time.

We do not have a formal textbook for mathematics but we have collected a number of useful tools over the years from many different suppliers.

Science in SK1

Much of the science that takes place in our classroom happens through inquiry, play, and experimentation inside and outside the classroom.

Students are encouraged to collect natural materials from the outdoors and bring them inside the class so that we can study them and talk about them.

Throughout the year we cover topics such as:
- Changes that happen during the four seasons, and how humans and animals adapt to them.
- Nutrition (integrated with health).
- The five senses.
- Attributes and qualities of living and non-living things.
- The human body.
- Electricity
- Wild animals and endangered species.
- Planet Earth and Outerspace
- Fun Science Experiments

Museums are a great place for students to gain knowledge and inquire more about the world around them. In sha Allah, we intend to make use of those institutions during the school years. We also plan to invite special guests to conduct STEAM workshops for the KG students.

The ability to speak and understand French allows students to communicate with French-speaking people in Canada and around the world, to understand and appreciate the history and evolution of their cultures, and to develop and benefit from a competitive advantage in the workforce. While the knowledge of any language has value, French is not only a global language but the mother tongue of many Canadians and an integral part of the Canadian identity. Learning French equips students to communicate with French-speaking Canadians and millions of French speakers around the world. In addition to strengthening students’ ability to communicate, learning another language develops their awareness of how language and culture interconnect, helping them appreciate and respect the diversity of Canadian and global societies. When a student is exposed to another culture through its language, he or she begins to understand the role that language plays in making connections with others. Knowledge of an additional language strengthens first-language skills. The ability to speak two or more languages generally enhances cognitive development, as well as reasoning and creative-thinking skills. It also enhances the student’s confidence as a learner, facilitates the learning of additional languages, and contributes to academic achievement. The ability to speak both of Canada’s official languages helps prepare students for their role as active and engaged citizens in today’s bilingual and multicultural Canada.
