This includes the mechanics of how sounds are produced (articulation), the acoustic properties of sound waves, and how the human ear perceives them.</p><p><strong><em>Phonology</em></strong>: Like the mechanic, it focuses on the underlying rules and patterns that govern how speech sounds are used in a language.
