Whilst looking at this piece created by Mueck, viewers receive a sense of balance and realism because of the fact that the boy is not life size, but is in proportion with itself and is in a crouching position. However, the characteristics of the boy are realistic and instantly draws the attention of people who enter the room. The boys realism engages the attention of viewers and draws them towards the piece.

The artist has used a slightly larger scale yet literal proportions to create a realist affect as well as a fleshy skin tone and neutral colours such as brown and beige's for his skin, hair, eyes and clothing. The form itself is three-dimensional. The sculpture mimics the appearance of a real life boy with very little distortion.

He uses pale and dull colours such as creams, dark browns and greys to show depth within his work. As well an exposed body with a distressed impression to the viewers. Furthermore, the subject matter is 3-Dimensional.

The artist
has made the scale of the sculpture inhuman and oversized being much larger than
it should be while maintaining a sense of realism to the boy depicted in the sculpture.

Formal Framework:
Mueck has produced a sculpture which is large in scale, confronting the viewers and allowing their eyes to be automatically drawn to the sculpture. There is a certain amount of distortion featured in this work as it is largely out of proportion to the surroundings, however the work is still in proportion to itself. The three dimensional sculpture is created with a pale but fleshy skin colour, there is a lack of colour or clothing on the boy however the eyes are drawn to the piercing ocean blue eyes. The awkward and protected positioning of the sculpture emphasises messaged that the work could be about the investigation of body image.
The work is both photorealistic and hyperrealistic, and presents to the viewer a blemish free, detailed, almost perfect fibreglass human being. The sculpture

The colours used in the piece are more natural and nude colours as there are no vibrant colours that stand out to draw your eyes to them.

- The artist presents a very large scale; would appear huge compared to the normal human figure- this size could represent the size of the issue.

Despite it’s size, it does follow the proportions of the human figure so there is a lack of distortion.

- Form is emphasised and the sculpture appears to be 3-dimensional and follows a natural colour scheme, using realistic, fleshy colours for the skin.
- Despite its unrealistic scale, it does follow the human anatomy and therefore does appear photorealistic. However, the even tone of the skin, lack of blemishes and wrinkles and precise placement of the hair suggests perfection; something that is unrealistic when it comes to being human.
- Made of fibre glass and could have followed the traditional technique of using silicone and plasticine moulds. Human or synthetic hair may also have been used, as well as cloth for the shorts the boy is wearing. To create this immense and detailed sculpture, highly skilled and trained technicians may also have helped.
- Its enormous size cannot be missed and therefore, grabs the viewer’s attention and draws them in closer to see the detail of this sculpture for themselves.

Which has been developed through the use of a variety of skin tones, his wearing very minimal clothing with only wearing shorts with the rest of his body being exposed.

Mueck uses accurate proportion and life like features to create the three dimensional sculpture, using skin tones which are dull and clean also the eyes which is a blue which contrasts to the the sculpture. The scale of the sculpture is oversized being a lot larger than it should be, this gives the sculpture a life like of realism to the boy. The sculpture doesnt have any unwated hair, acne/pimples, skin rashes nor pimples but still looks as if it is a real life boy. The materials are silicon and fibre glass or fibre materials, the crouching boy is possible made by a team piece by piece, this artwork is meant to be seen and presented in an open spaced gallery with lots of room to view it and display it because of the scale and form. People would feel as though the sculpture has grown from a human being to a sculpture thats why the boy is crouching and looking side ways which grabs the viewers attention.
